"Someone better be fucking dying," I muttered as I slammed the door to my black Hellcat Charger
I didn't waste time to approach the abandoned warehouse ahead of me where Bryson waited for me with a stoic expression on his face. He was my third in command, after my brother, but I put him first in stressful situations and when I didn't want Jason in my business.
It was easier to live this lifestyle in California because I didn't have to think about communicating my whereabouts to people and putting someone's thoughts and feelings before my own. I'd simply do whatever I wanted and dealt with the consequences later.
I hated that it wasn't so simple anymore.
"Morning boss," Bryson greeted me with a mumble
"Shut the fuck up. Why am I here?" I questioned harshly as he turned to open the warehouse doors
"Carlos,"
The name stopped me in my tracks and turn to him with a raised eyebrow, "When did he get out?"
He blew out a breath before pushing the doors open, "Last month,"
"So why am I hearing about him now?" I asked through gritted teeth
"He went underground and kept a low profile. He didn't make an appearance until this morning-,"
My jaw clenched as I looked at him in disbelief, "You let that motherfucker walk for an entire month without informing me? Have I taught you nothing?"
My tone was strained and forceful as I recalled the bullshit I went through with Carlos in California six years ago.
We were rivals in the underworld concerning the British, Italian, and Spanish Mafia and we had enough dirt on each other to put the other behind bars for life. We decided to sign an agreement to act as a peace treaty between us and our men so we could control our sides of the business without direct competition.
It worked for a few years, but Carlos became greedy after a while.
He didn't want to be the most wealthiest man in the Spanish Mafia. He wanted to be the most powerful man in the world who dominated every industry and enterprise in his way.
Knowing what his ideas and intentions were, I was forced to secretly turn in everything I had on him and he was arrested the next morning. The arrest was publicized with a million headlines and his empire eventually burned with him.
I didn't want our rivalry to end the way it did since he was the only individual who I actually considered as competition, but I couldn't sit back and watch him destroy the things I had built as well.
We were both experienced in our lines of work, but he wasn't the only one who made sacrifices and burned bridges in his life.
He was a selfish and greedy bastard who needed to be stopped and reminded that there were other people in our world than him.
My name and recognition soared after his arrest, but a few nights later, I received a letter from a stranger with his handwriting and smears of blood decorating the edges of the page. The piece of paper reassured me that he would be back, but I crumbled it and threw it aside.
