A N G E L AIt was finally Monday again and I was glad to be back in the office. Even though I appreciated the weekend and well deserved rest, I enjoyed being in my natural habitat of my business.
"Good morning, Lucy," I greeted Lucy with a smile as I walked through the entry doors
"Good morning, Mrs. Evans. Your mother is waiting for you in your office,"
The news made me stop in my tracks and look at her, "Did she say why?"
I really didn't need her bullshit so early this morning.
"Nope, but she said that it was important,"
"It seems like everyone has important things to talk about," I mumbled and shook my head
"Thank you, Lucy," I called out before walking to the elevator
I looked around the lobby and saw that everyone was completing their normal and daily routines and smiled at the peaceful atmosphere it created. There were no arguments or disagreements that forced a wedged between my people and their lines of work, simply grace and respect for one another.
Suddenly, my eyebrows furrowed as I noticed the guy from the other day talking to one of my colleagues. They were engaged in a deep conversation with occasional laughter, but his presence still worried me.
His demeanor also slightly worried me because he reminded me of the challenging and demanding wealthy man who happened to wear an olive green suit jacket, white buttoned down shirt and black slacks tightened with a carmel colored belt. It didn't make it better that he wore a silver pendant around his neck and an expensive silver watch on his right wrist.
The more he stood there, the more I simply blinked at him and wondered about his personal life and what business he had here.
I blew out a breath, still keeping my eyes trained on him and took another step towards the elevator. I almost forgot that my Mom was waiting for me in the office and that she had access to my security cameras. She'd call me if I took too long in the lobby.
I pressed the button for the 7th floor and sighed when the doors closed immediately with a soft ding. About three minutes later, the elevator opened and I smiled and nodded in approval as I saw my employees walk between their own offices and cubicles to keep themselves awake and busy through the workday.
I stepped out the elevator and continued my walk down the hallway to enter my office. The door was closed, so I knocked softly before opening the door. My mother was dramatic at times and I didn't want to "scare" her from simply opening a door too fast or something.
She sat in my chair as she gazed at the view of New York City with a scowl on her face.
"Hi Ma," I greeted her and walked to my desk to set my briefcase down
"Have you seen the newsletter from this morning?" She asked immediately
I blinked at her plainly and rested against the desk, "Well good morning to you too,"
"Angela, have you seen the news?" She asked again with a little more force
"No, why?" I answered, already feeling slightly irritated
