The project was finally complete, and hours had passed since we'd wrapped up. As the clock struck 9 pm, Kyle was still lingering, hesitant to leave. I couldn't help but notice the peculiar look on his face, a mix of comfort and unease. His words from earlier echoed in my mind: "You're nice, and you make me feel comfortable." I was the only person he opened up to, and it filled me with a sense of pride and joy.

But as the night wore on, Kyle's behavior became increasingly strange. He seemed to be avoiding going home, and his usual calm demeanor gave way to a restless energy. I sensed a hidden tension, a secret he kept concealed beneath the surface. As the hours ticked by, my curiosity grew. What was holding him back? What was he hiding?

"What's wrong, Kyle? Are you staying a little longer?" I asked, my curiosity piqued as the hours slipped away.

Kyle hesitated, his eyes darting towards the clock on the wall. "It's just that I'm supposed to be home by now. I got too comfortable here and lost track of time. My dad is strict about punctuality, and I'm in trouble if I'm late. He won't believe me if I say I was working on a school project."

I sensed his unease and offered a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I'll come with you as proof. We can explain the project together."

Kyle's eyes lit up with gratitude. "Would you really do that for me?"

"Of course, I can," I replied, trying to sound calm despite the flutter in my chest.

But Kyle's concern wasn't fully alleviated. "What about your mom? Won't she be upset if she doesn't find you here?"

I placed a hand on his arm, trying to reassure him. "Don't worry, let's just go. We'll figure it out together."

With a nod, Kyle agreed. We grabbed our jackets, and I closed the door behind us as we stepped out into the night, our footsteps echoing in unison.
