I led Kyle to my room, and before I returned to help Mum, I closed the door to have a quick word with him. "I'm really sorry about what just happened," I said gently, my eyes apologetic.

Kyle smiled reassuringly. "No, it's no problem. I understand parents can be a little mad sometimes."

He added, "And your mum is kinda cool. She didn't take things too far."

I chuckled. "Nah, she just acted all cool because you were there. But of course, she's a good one. She's just strict about the cleanliness of the house, that's all."

Kyle nodded sympathetically. "That's not so bad. My dad is strict about everything. Anyway, you should go before she calls you out. Remember, you have to help her."

I nodded, feeling grateful for Kyle's understanding. "Yeah, you're right. I'll go help her out."

"Oh, wait, Shawn," Kyle said, standing up. "Maybe I should come and help you out, since I'm the one who caused you to make a mess last night."

I tried to head towards the door, but Kyle pulled my hand back. "No, I don't want my mum to start lecturing me on how to treat a guest," I said, trying to sound convincing.

Kyle's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Then I guess a goodbye peck won't hurt," he whispered, his breath tickling my ear.

He gently kissed my forehead, and then leaned in closer to whisper in my ear. His warm breath sent shivers down my spine, and I felt goosebumps rising. Just as he pecked my ear lightly, Mum's voice interrupted the tender moment.

"Shawn, I didn't tell you to go and sleep!" she called out from the kitchen, her tone firm but amused.

"I'm coming!" I yelled back, reluctantly pulling away from Kyle's embrace.

"I'll be back," I whispered to Kyle, before heading out to help Mum in the kitchen.
