Max just starred at me while I was frozen, not realizing the whole moment.

"You excuse me." the Dutch king said as another man called for him, "Have a nice remaining evening you two."

He smiled before he stepped away, not realizing what he had done with his words. The words that caused Max to still starr at me, expecting an explanation from me, one that I couldn't give him right now.

So the Dutchman simply shook his head, pain in his eyes before he squeezed pass me, rushing over to the exit of the room.

"Max, please wait." I nearly begged, walking after him.

"Why? Why should I?" he hissed, not even turning around, "Apparently you lied to me, you never told me the truth about what would happen, that I have to give up racing for you, who says that I want that? Racing is my life."

His words cut deep into my heart, but he was right in some way, even though it hurt. Formula one was his life and I knew that, he would never give it up for a person, for me, for being a prince next to me, to live in this palace.

"Please, don't run away." I croaked as he reached the big door out of the ball room, tears already running down my face.

"Prince Charles!" some woman suddenly shouted behind me and I quickly looked after Max, who simply shut the door close behind him, disappearing into the corridor of the palace while my eyes were glued to the wooden door.

"Aunt Charlene." I then smiled, quickly brushing my tears aside before I turned around.

"Oh my boy, don't cry. We know this day isn't easy, but it's a new chapter of your life, you're gonna lead this country." she beamed friendly and laid her hand on my shoulder.

The older woman didn't seem to noticed what had just happened and I was glad about that as I didn't want to spread any rumors beyond these people here.

"I know, it's just a bit too much at the moment." I mumbled, fighting back the tears.

Tears not because of my father, hell no, but because of Max and his words. He was probably already on his way back to his apartment or hiding in his guest room, probably the first one as there was no reason for him to stay.

I then talked to aunt Charlene for a few minutes before she walked off, leaving me alone before Cathy and Arthur stepped over.

"Hey Charlie, where's your good looking boyfriend?" my brother joked and instantly my slight smile dropped, a tear developing in the corner of my eyes.

"He left." was all I was able to return, feeling the pain stinging against my heart once again.

"What? Why?" Cathy asked in horror, looking around if I was really telling the truth.

"You father asked him how he feels that this was his last formula one championship as once he's married to me he couldn't do any racing anymore. And as he has to marry me soon there won't even be another season of formula one for him." I quickly explained.

"Oh shit, that's a lot." Arthur blurred out while Cathy stepped closer, laying a hand on my shoulder while looking at me with some pity.
