My whole body tensed up as I realized that I hadn't seen a ghost before, she was really here.
"K... Kelly. What are you doing here?" Max stuttered and my eyes were the only thing moving, looking between these two.
"Come on Max, you invited me here don't play fool now." she sighed and rolled her eyes while she stepped into the drivers room, only then noticing me, "What is he doing here? I thought you said he wouldn't come to any more races."
"What?" I blurred out, my eyes widening as I looked at my boyfriend, who suddenly got all nervous and in panic.
"I... I never said that." the Dutch tried to defend himself, but Kelly only stepped over to him and laid her hand on his shoulder while her eyes starred right at me.
"So you weren't the one who texted me after Bahrain?!" he asked Max while still looking at me like she had already won, whatever game she was playing here.
The Dutchman though didn't say a word and therefore, after some moments of silence, I opened my mouth, realizing everything.
"You texted her? After everything she has done to us? Why?" I asked, my voice a little bit trembling but I tried to stay strong even though I felt first tears in the corner of my eyes.
"I... I did." Max mumbled, before he rushed over and wanted to grab my hands but I pulled them away, "I did, but I was so confused, I had such a bed result and this was supposed to be my last season and I couldn't accept it, I was so messed up and I knew she would understand as her father was also a racing driver and had bad results and she knows the world of formula one so I called her."
The pain inside me turned into anger and I even pushed Max from me.
"You called her?! While I was waiting for your texts, you called your ex?! The ex that had nearly destroyed our life?! Our life that we wanted to live together, but in the smallest moment of failure you run back to her?! Why Max, tell me why?!" I shouted at him and while the Dutchman shrugged, Kelly only grinned at us.
"I was scared okay?" Max returned, some tears already running down his face, "I was fucking scared that you won't understand me, that you won't help me with the struggles because all you care about is me ending my career and becoming your husband, you have no idea what that means for me, it's not that easy okay?"
My whole body froze. He had never told me his honest point of view until now, I'd no idea what he was really thinking about it. And now it seemed that it all blurred out of him, that he told me his honest feeling about it, for the first time ever.
"T... That's not true." I croaked, still completely in shock, "I care about you and your racing."
I did, I really did but now I blamed myself for not telling him, for not being there for him.
"But I love you." I whispered and looked down, seeing where my fingers played with the hem of my suit jacket, "I love you and I was so scared that you would back out of our deal."
Kelly quietly laughed in the back and as I looked up I saw Max stepping back from me, over to her where she instantly laid a hand on his shoulder. She then whispered something in his hear and the Dutchman only nodded his head before he looked at me again, anger and pain in his eyes.
"Our deal?! You know how that sounds, right? It sounds like an agreement we signed, like a drivers contract." Max shouted at me and I already felt my heart breaking, "You know, I loved you and I thought we would marry each other as a sign of our love, but for you everything is just a stupid deal so you can be prince of Monaco."
