"Somebody bailed you out." Said the police officer as he opened Joe's cell.

He gathered his things, signed some papers and walked out of the police station where Ann was waiting by their car.

"You didn't have to." He mumbled as he got in it.

Ann rolled her eyes and sat behind the wheel. "A simple 'thank you' would do, you know?"

He looked out of the window and didn't say a word for the rest of the ride. Ann kept looking at him and thinking of a way to start the conversation, but she knew it wasn't going to work. So she turned up the music in the radio and focused on the road.

They pulled up at their driveway and Joe stormed out of the car and inside the house. He passed Priyanka on the way, dropping her a quick 'hey' before going upstairs. Ann walked in and dropped her bag on the floor with a big sigh.

„Hey girl." Priyanka walked up to her with a sad smile. „I figure it didn't go well."

„As you can see." She shrugged. „Thanks again for looking after the girls. I owe you."

„Oh you know that's not a problem for me! They've been watching Paw Patrol and I made you some dinner, it's in the oven."

„You're a goddess." She said as she hugged Pri.

„Not gonna argue with that." She said as she flipped her hair, making them both laugh. „Okay, I'll leave you guys. Good luck."

„Thanks." Ann sighed. „I'll need it."

„I'm sure you'll figure it out. He just needs to sort it all out in his head and that's all."

„I hope you're right." She smiled and waved her goodbye, closing the doors behind them.

She walked in the living room where Delphine was fast asleep on the couch and Willa sat next to her, her eyes glued to the screen.

„Okay, I think we had enough TV for a day." Ann said, turning it off.

„Mommy!" Willa whined and kicked her feet.

„I said enough, Willa. Bed." Ann pointed upstairs.

Willa crossed her arms and walked to her room as Ann picked Delphine up. She put her in her bed, before tucking Willa in.

„Night night, angel." She kissed her forehead.

„Mommy?" She asked with her sweet little voice.

„Yes, honey?"

„Are you okay?" The question made Ann tear up right away. She quickly wiped her tears away, so her daughter wouldn't see them.

„Of course. Why would you ask that?" She laughed.

"You look sad."

"I'm really okay, baby. Maybe still a bit stressed about your grandma."

"Okay." She smiled. "I love you, mommy."

"I love you more, honey." She said, hugging her daughter and giving her one more kiss. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

She quietly closed the door and walked up to their bedroom where Joe was sitting at the end of the bed, lost in his thoughts.

"Hey." She said quietly, knocking on the open door. "Are you hungry? Pri made us some food."

"Yeah, just... give me a second." He said without looking at Ann.

"Okay." She said as she walked away.

She was... content. It wasn't a 'no', which she obviously expected. So there was really hope for them to talk it all out. She took the food out of the oven and put it up on the table, grabbing two sets of plates and silverware.
