Chapter 30

„All their snacks are in the top drawer, just remember to not give them anything after 5 pm." Ann said as she ran around the house.

„Baby, I know everything." Sophie laughed at her daughter.

„Call me anytime with anything, okay? I will have my phone on me at all times."

„Ann." She put her hands on Ann's shoulders. „Relax. Take this time to yourself."

„You're right." Ann sighed. „I'm just stressing out..."

„They'll be fine with me." She gave her a reassuring smile. „Now go, someone is waiting for you." She pointed at their front door, where Joe was patiently standing by their suitcases.

„Thanks, mom." She hugged her mother.

They walked towards Joe, who was scrolling TikTok out of boredom. He immediately threw it in his pocket, when they approached them and smiled from ear to ear.

„Ready?"

„Ready." Ann nodded.

„Bye, my babies." Sophie hugged Joe as well.

„Thanks Sophie again for doing this." He smiled at her.

„Oh, anything for you." She rubbed his back. „Okay, have fun guys! And... be safe." She winked at them, making Ann go full red.

„Mom!" She rolled her eyes, hiding her face from embarrassment.

„What? I don't think I can handle a third grandchild!"

„Okay, bye!" Ann said quickly, taking her suitcase and walking out of the house.

„Bye." Joe laughed.

Ann sat in the passenger seat as Joe loaded the suitcases in his truck. He got behind the wheel and looked at Ann with a smile.

„Ugh, I can't believe her." Ann shook her head.

„That was funny, come on." He laughed, as he started the car. „Are you excited?"

„I'm like... crazy excited. And crazy scared at the same time." She chuckled.

„Why?" He frowned, not taking his eyes off the road.

„I don't know, I just... Shouldn't it be awkward?"

„I'm never awkward around you." He shook his shoulders.

„No, I mean... you know, we're divorced and going on a romantic trip to Italy? Come on... You can't make that shit up."

„Okay, when you put it like that..." He laughed. „But please, don't think of it that way. You know how much I care about you, even if it's as a friend right now."

„Yeah, same... Thanks again. For everything." She smiled, catching an eye contact with him for a second before he looked back on the road.

„Road trip music?" He smirked, even though they only had about half an hour to the airport.

„Hell yeah." Ann chuckled.

„Hey Siri, play ‚Unwritten'."

„Hell yeah!" Ann said again, with more enthusiasm.

„Give it your all, girl." Joe chuckled, knowing how much she loved that song.

He put the roof of his car down, letting the wind blow out their hair.

„Staring at the blank page before you." Ann started singing, making Joe turn up the music. „Open up the dirty window, let the sun illuminate the words that you cannot find. Take it away!" She pointed at Joe.
