The rest of the day was spent in an awkward atmosphere. Nobody asked Ann about what happened, because they all saw the state she was in. She was devastated. Hurt. Confused. Lost.

One thing was for certain - Joe didn't leave her side for two seconds. Even though he also didn't say anything about what happened, he did more than enough by just being with her. He knew when she needed to cry and took her away from everyone. Hugged her whenever he saw her lost in her thoughts. Squeezed her hand whenever he felt she needed a reassurance that he was there for her.

And it was more than enough for Ann. It was exactly what she needed in that moment and from the exact person she wanted it from.

"Want me to get you something to drink?" He whispered to Ann as they sat on the couch, his arm wrapped around her.

"A water would be nice, thank you." She smiled warmly at him. He nodded, smiling back and giving her a quick kiss on the temple.

She sighed and looked around everyone, who was enjoying the cozy, Christmas evening. Her eyes locked with Kevin's who was staring at her with a concerned look on his face. She gave him a reassuring smile and she noticed him mouthing 'wanna talk?' to her. She thought for a few seconds, before nodding and standing up from the couch.

She passed Joe on the way with a confused look on his face. She grabbed the water that he was holding for her in his hand and thanked him as she walked outside with Kevin.

She sat on the chair and sighed, realizing that that space in their house became a place for all the hard conversations. She wondered when did that happened and how many more she would have there.

"What's up, Kev?" She smiled as he next to her.

„How are you doing? Like... truly."

„Like shit." She chuckled.

„Yeah, I can see that mentally you're somewhere else. Look, I..." He sighed. „I know I wasn't around a lot. While we were on tour it was easier for me to keep track. But right now, me living so many hours away from you guys I feel like I'm missing a lot... And I'm really sorry that I wasn't there for you when you needed a big brother."

„Kevin..." Ann poured her lip at him. „You're so sweet. Don't feel bad about it. You have your own life, your own family and worries."

„Yeah, but you know I always treated you like my little sister. Since day one I just knew you belong to our family."

She took his hand and gave him a warm smile as she felt her eyes getting watery. „You have no idea how much I appreciate you. You were there for us since the beginning... And I'm forever grateful for that."

„So... I figured your conversation with Josh didn't go well."

„Yeah..." Ann sighed, leaning back in her chair. „I don't know what I'm doing, Kevin."

„What do you mean?" He leaned closer to her.

„I thought I let go of Joe. It was really hard at first, but meeting Josh and not being able to see Joe for 6 months made me feel like I am finally over him. But I wasn't... And I fear I will never be." She closed her eyes, pushing back tears.

„So... what's stopping you guys?"

She opened her eyes, looking at the beach and ocean that always reminded her of their happy times. She saw all those moments, swimming in the ocean, running around the beach with the girls, having campfires and singing...

What was stopping her?

Then she started to remember all those times that she was not that happy. How she raised the girls without him, having to constantly explain to the girls that he will be back and then not having him back. All those fights and tears...
