„Ann, where were you, we were- Oh my god." Pri ran up to Ann, seeing what state she was in as she walked out of Joe's room.
„Ann?" Josh panicked, cupping her face. „What happened?"
„Come on." Pri took her hand. „I'm sorry, Josh. She needs me now."
She walked out of Ann's house and guided her towards hers, so they had more privacy.
„Pri, stop." Ann whispered, stopping in the middle of the road.
„Come inside." She tried to grab her hand, but she pushed it away. „What's going on, Ann?"
„I... don't know. I don't want to talk, I really don't." She said, another wave of tears falling out of her eyes.
„Tell me what happened." She said softly, rubbing her arm.
„I told him the truth. I told him what I want. And that is finally letting him go."
„Oh, Ann." Pri sighed, pity painted on her face.
„I needed to do that, Pri. You have no idea how fucking hard it is for me. But I just had to. It was like an obsession. I had no other choice." She sobbed.
„Sometimes we hold on, because love has consumed every part of your heart and soul, that it's clouding all logic."
„Holding him and kissing just felt like being lit from within. But with time the fire grew and started to destroy everything around me. I just couldn't handle it anymore, I just couldn't, Pri. I love him so deeply, but I can't do this."
„You both love each other and that's a fact, but... the painful truth is that it's not enough."
A car drove on Ann's driveway, making them both turn around as they saw Joe walking out of her house with his suitcase. Her heart immediately sank, realizing that her words now turned into actions. He really was leaving. For good.
„Joe!" She screamed, running toward him.
He kept his gaze on the car as he placed his suitcase in the trunk. He passed Ann and opened the passenger door, Ann immediately closing it. He sighed, pushing his head down.
„Please don't make it harder than it already is." He whispered.
„Can you at least fucking look at me?" She yelled.
Slowly he raised his head and locked gaze with Ann. But his eyes were different. There was no spark, there was no depth in them. They were just... eyes. And she kept looking, trying to find something, but all she saw was a stranger in the eyes where she once saw a soulmate.
„What happens now?" She asked very quietly, as if she didn't want to hear the answer.
„I'm leaving. And you'll never have to see me again." He said, his words spilling out of his mouth, as he was visibly drunk. „Oh, you fucking broke me, Ann."
„I know." She whispered, eager to touch his hand, but she was to afraid to.
„It didn't hurt like that last time. But maybe it hurts so much, because I really thought we were going to make it this time." He scoffed. „I thought I'll be able to handle it, but I can't. I can't even look you in the eyes right now. And the most fucked up part of this is that I still love you throughout all of this."
„I love you too, Joe, I-„
„No, Ann." He raised his hand. „Don't say that. I don't think you ever loved me."
„What?" She scoffed, shaking her head.
„You loved the idea of me. You loved the comfort of me. You knew that despite everything, I'll never leave you. That I'll always come back to you like a fucking addict. You loved that you could come to me for comfort, for pleasure... But that's just the idea of me."
