It was a cloudy day when Mike picked me up from the hospital. The sky swarmed with shades of gray, and the atmosphere aligned with the dire colors.

Mike smiled at me whenever I looked at him, but the crease between his brows deepened when he thought I wasn't looking.

"Let's get you home," he said and opened the back door of his car.

A man waited for us behind the wheel. The chauffeur was unfamiliar to me; he was younger than the last one, barely older than Mike.

"Where's the chauffeur who used to drive me?"

Mike took the front seat.

"He isn't working for us anymore."

"Why? I liked him."

Mike didn't respond for a long time but finally turned his head slightly to see me from the corner of his eye.

"He disappeared the night you were kidnapped."

Disappeared?

The old man had died because I made him tail Hari...

"It's not our job to figure out what happened to him, so don't worry about it too much," Mike said.

He explained that they had hired more security personnel and installed new cameras in our yard. I understood why these precautions were necessary once we arrived on our street.

A crowd of people shouted and threw things into our yard. The stone part of our fence was vandalized with angry messages:

Sasaeng psychos!

DIE

Save Lee Know from the Lee family

Justice for Jungkook

Sexual offenders live in this house

Our chauffeur slowed down near the crowd.

People hit the windows.

"Is the bitch inside!?"

"Come out! Justice needs to be served!"

I recoiled from the window, even though they couldn't see me through the tint. The worst part was that I wasn't sure if they were shouting about Hari or me. Among the online comments, I had seen plenty of people hating on me—not as much as they hated Hari, but still a considerable number.

The newly hired security men pushed people aside, making room for our car to fit through the gate. They promptly locked it after we drove in, shouting at the crowd not to trespass.

The ground was littered with letters and trash. Someone had thrown a black shoe and a bloodied white T-shirt over the fence.

"Come on. Let's walk in together," Mike said, standing to the side of the fence to shield me from the people peering through the gate poles.

"It's Filina!"

"Hey! Filina, are you okay?"

"Bitch! Leave Sunghoon alone!"

"Leave Lee Know alone!"

"She's a fucking sasaeng too, making her dad marry into the family."

A security man blocked a stone from hitting us, spreading his jacket as a shield.

The yelling faded into a quiet background hum as we got inside and closed the door.

A jazz song played in the living room, drowning out the last of the outside noises. A piano melody climbed an octave, blending ambiguously with the saxophone, bass, and drums.
