Before reading this next chapter, I would like to point out that I'm fully aware of why people hate Quenn Usurna for everything she did in the original show. However, I find her character intriguing and wish she had more character development before her death. So for this story and possibly a new story if I ever have the time to finish this one I will see if I can add more depth to Usurna as something more than a one dimensional villain. With this in mind I want to reiterate that this does not mean I want to advocate or defend Queen Usurna's actions in any way I just want to explore what her character could become beyond what we see in the original show.

It has been about 5 weeks since the Bular's trial was announced to the denizens of Trollmarket . right now Bular was waiting for Vendel to meet with the rest  of the Troll Tribunal before his trial. It had been decided that the Troll Tribunal  would arrive today to give Bular more to recover before going to his trial, according to Troll law. Right now, Bular was doing his best to keep Borhart entertained as he waited for the guards to escort him to the Hero's Forge when he froze upon hearing a feminine voice addressing him

" So it is true. The infamous and vicious Gumm-gumm prince had defected from his father's army and is now seeking refuge in Trollmarket with the help of the Trollhunter of all trolls "

Queen Usurna was standing in the hallway of the keep that Bular and Borhart were staying in before his trial. Two of Queen Usurna's guards gave Bular cold stares that gave him ' we are watching you' look as they stood nearby making sure that nothing happened. Borhart was clueless of what was going on and just innocently chirped and babbled as he played with his father's fingers and inadvertently brightening up the atmosphere with his cute antics.

Bular just sat in silence as he, Usurna's guards, and surprisingly Queen Usurna herself couldn't figure out what to say next due to the tension building up in the room. Bular felt Borhart gripping his finger and felt some of his courage returning to him as he held Borhart's hand a slightly firmer grip as he spoke to the Krubera Queen to get this awkwardness over and done with.

"Is there a reason why your here to see me before the other members of the Troll Tribunal arrive or are you here just to see if Vendel was telling you the truth about my reasons to be here"

Usurna stood back slightly surprised as Bular finished his sentence, she hadn't expected Bular to initiate a conversation considering his position and the... as humans refer to it 'the elephant in the room'. Usurna cleared her throat then she order her guards to give her a moment alone with Bular. After some minor protest, Usurna's guards obeyed their Queen's orders due to their faith in their monarch's judgement along with Borhart's genuine affections towards Bular seeing no hint of fear in the whelp's eyes as he stared at his father with love.

Usurna dropped her demeanor now that she was alone with Bular and Borhart and spoke to the Gumm-gumm in a cold tone " Just so you know I won't have you executed on the spot or tell your father about your decision. Don't mistake this as an act of kindness I just wish to gain an ... ally in case I need aid in the event I have to maintain my cover as someone opposed to Gunmar's release in the eyes of the public. I hope this isn't an issue for you". Bular had to take his time to process what Queen Usurna said to him and was conflicted of wether or not he should trust the Krubera Queen's word but ultimately decided to play along for the time being and prepare a back plan for the future.

"What is it that you want with me. A deal to be your or just a mere favor to become your spy" As Bular finished his sentence Usurna broke down in laughter confusing Bular and mildly startled Borhart from the sudden noise. After catching her breath Usurna spoke up feeling the need to clear up the misunderstanding.

" No no, you misunderstand I don't you to become a spy. If I needed one I can just have a Changeling infiltrate Trollmarket. I just need you to promise to secrecy about my affiliation with your father both during and after your trial and I would reward you by helping you pass your trial to the best of my ability's"

Bular was dumbfounded and almost felt tempted to facepalm himself as he absently nodded his head. As Queen Usurna got ready to leave, She took a glance at Borhart curiously and almost... longingly. Bular instinctively shielded  Borhart from view and growled menacingly.

" Relax Bular I have no intentions of converting your son into a Gumm-gumm soldier like I did with Aarghaumont and the rest of the whelps I traded to your father all those centuries ago. I just... I was just thinking of what could've been if certain events of my life had panned out differently. And just in case if your wondering, Borhart's birth father was one of my more elite bodyguards during my last visit to Trollmarket almost a year ago...He apparently snuck over to Trollmarket a month and a half ago then Vendel told me about his young mistress and their love child. Rest assured Borhart won't be taken away from you ... his father was the one who came up with the idea to have his lover abandon their son. I have long since fired Mithringar from his post and banished him from the Krubera kingdom for his crimes. He was also threatened with the death penalty if he tried to harm Borhart when Vendel offered to take him in as a mine worker in exchange for letting him live in Trollmarket"

Queen Usurna gave Bular a simple farewell and wish for good luck in his upcoming trial as she left to join the rest of the memebers of the Troll Tribunal. Bular at first felt immense rage towards Borhart's birth father for what he did to his son but calmed down for the sake of staying on his best behavior before his trial. It wasn't like he needed to in act on his rage anymore, Borhart was his son now and he didn't need to be related by blood to love his little one. Bular had already proven himself to be Borhart's true father ever since day one and he wasn't going to let anyone tell him otherwise.

Kanjigar walked in telling Bular that it was time to go. Bular decided to do something that he had seen humans do with their children over the years without regard of how odd his behavior looked by trollish standards and gave his son a kiss on the forehead. Despite Kanjigar's confusion he understood that Bular wanted to give Borhart his love for him for possibly the last time as Bular handed Borhart to him.

" Take care of him for me... and  ... and tell him I will always love him...promise me you will teach him how to be strong enough to survive in this world in case... in case if I don't make it"

Bular took a deep breath in and out as he stepped out of the keep and followed the guards to the Hero's forge. Bular had faced many fiercer opponents in battle but the feeling of dread washing over his body was nothing compared to any of those battles. But he was a Gumm-gumm warrior, he won't let his fears of failing his trial deter him from facing this challenge head on for his son and their future together.
