I obviously couldn't fall back asleep; yesterday's conversation was fresh in my mind. She didn't want to hurt anyone, which is why she had two partners for half a year. I would have never guessed that about her. I got dressed, and Massaru knocked on the door.
"Boss, we have the meeting with the lawyer in an hour, and afterwards..." "Cancel everything," I interrupted him. "I need to see my cousin first. No idea how long it'll take. Is he still in Tokyo?" "As far as I know, yes. His overseas appointments start at the end of the week."
I threw on a jacket and headed out into the hallway. "Good, then take me there. It's urgent."
Less than half an hour later, I arrived; Kunzite was the only one I could speak openly with. I needed advice before I made any more uncontrollable decisions like last night.
"Is my cousin upstairs?" I asked his housekeeper, who had opened the door for me. "No, he's in the living room," she called out, and I automatically headed toward the sound of his voice.
He was sitting in his armchair with a large cup of coffee, skimming through the news. Folding the newspaper, he looked up at me with interest. "What can I do for you at this hour?"
I grabbed a cup and poured myself some coffee. "I messed up; I think your advice would be helpful."
He sat up, curious, waiting for more details. "It's about Usagi." "I figured as much. So what happened?" "She's been seeing someone else behind my back... Seiya, a singer..." I began, gritting my teeth as I took a seat next to him.
"Oh, and what are you going to do now? Do you want to confront her about it?" "I already have." Kunzite gave me a questioning look, prompting a heavy sigh from me. "I told her it's okay for her to see the other guy. I'd have lost her otherwise." "Idiot." "What would you have done in my place? It was clear she has feelings for him..." Kunzite stood up and let out an ironic laugh. "Definitely not that! You want to willingly share her with another man? Are you serious? That's just self-torture." "Kunz, I'd rather share her than never see her again. If I had given her an ultimatum, I would have lost. This way, I still have a chance."
"A chance for what?" Karoi suddenly chimed in. I hadn't even realized she had joined us. Great, now she would chime in as well. Kunzite walked over to her and kissed her cheek. "Good morning, my darling. What are your plans for today?" he tried, unsuccessfully, to distract her.
Kaori crossed her arms and looked back and forth between us. "So I'm waiting for a chance for what, Diamond?" "Since you won't let it go, Usagi."
Kaori's expression brightened. "I knew it! So what did you do to need another chance?" "He told her he's fine with her seeing others," Kunzite explained, and Kaori's eyes widened in horror.
She gave me a well-aimed smack on the back of the head. "A woman actually puts up with you, and you mess it up? I'd be thrilled to finally have some female support in this family."
"Kaori, she's apparently been seeing him for a while... If I heard correctly, she has feelings for both," Kunzite continued. "Then he needs to fight for her! That's clear." "Oh, and how?" I grumbled, annoyed by Kaori's optimism. "Be creative; money is no object. Take her away, show her the world. Buy her nice jewelry. Come out of your shell and find some joy in life. Oh, I have an idea." Kaori rushed to the old secretary by the window and frantically opened the drawer. After a moment, she seemed to find what she was looking for. She sat next to me and held out a business card.
"A jeweler? And how's he supposed to help me?" "This is the brightest man I've ever met." She blew a kiss to Kunzite. "No offense, my darling, but this man understands women and his craft. Describe your situation roughly, and he'll come up with a unique piece of jewelry. Trust me. Especially if your gift tells a story—your story... oh, it could really work."
