*** 5 Years Later ***
Usagi had actually taken four years to uncover the secret of the key, and it would have taken even longer if the witch hadn't let it slip. On the other hand, I was glad she finally knew because now I could finally retrieve my package from Kunzite's safe. Even though we occasionally clashed and she often drove me to the brink, I couldn't imagine a life without her and her chaos.
Everything had been perfectly prepared. Massaru officially had the day off and was handling the smooth running of the preparations in Davao. When I led Usagi down to the beach, she was slightly puzzled by how beautifully everything was arranged. I had to hold myself back from revealing too much too soon. Only after dinner did I slowly push the package over to her, and her questioning look turned to me.
As she held the small box in her fingers, I actually started to get nervous. I had imagined the whole thing to be much easier. "This is beautiful, Diamond, but how do I open it? It's locked," she asked, pulling at the lid again. My fear that she might simply rip it off didn't come true, although it probably wasn't far from happening.
I gave her a smile and pointed to her necklace. "I thought this was the key to your heart. So, you fibbed to me, and it does have another use," she began to argue, but I didn't want the lovely mood to turn sour.
"I not only had the key remade back then but also commissioned several other things. Go ahead, open the box you've been searching for these past four years, and then you'll understand what I mean."
Usagi fumbled her pendant off the chain and inserted it into the small keyhole. The moment she lifted the lid, her eyes widened, and she beamed at me. I knew it was my turn now. It was only four simple little words, but they were hard to get over my lips. Slowly, I went down on one knee in front of her, took the box from her hand containing her engagement ring, and looked up at her.
She knew exactly what was coming but didn't interrupt me; instead, she looked at me expectantly.
"I think we've taken enough time. Usagi, will you marry me?" Of course, I had racked my brains for days about how to phrase the proposal most skillfully, but when the time came, my thoughts were blank.
Usagi began to smirk and instead of saying yes, she replied, "Put in a bit more effort. I know you can do better."
This eased my tension a bit. Her expression betrayed her, and I knew she wouldn't say no. So, I refrained from rolling my eyes and dared a second attempt.
"My dearest, we've known each other for five years now, and for four of them, you've regularly driven me insane. But I've realized that I don't want to be without your chaotic presence anymore. So, I thought it was time we took the next step. Usagi Tsukino, will you marry me?"
This time her smile grew even wider. "That was much better... But..."
"No 'but'. I've asked you twice now, and either you answer me now, or..."
I didn't get any further because at that moment, she threw herself into my arms, and we landed together in the sand as she kissed me. "Yes, of course, I'll marry you. What did you think?" she laughed at me.
That was a year ago, and today was the day. My hand searched the bed, but she wasn't there. Sleepily, I blinked around the room. She had already left. I'd probably only see her again at the church.
Suddenly, my bedroom door opened, and for a moment, I thought it was Usagi, back for something she'd forgotten. But to my dismay, it was Kaori, who cheerfully switched on the overhead light. "Why are you still in bed? You're getting married today! Aren't you excited?"
