Usagi was safe, but that didn't mean the problems were solved. A deep sigh escaped me as I leaned back into the leather seat. Massaru glanced at me in the rearview mirror, waiting patiently for my instructions.
"To the villa. They'll definitely show up at Father's place first," I muttered, and the car accelerated.
The villa, illuminated by the flashing blue lights of police cars, drew closer. Numerous police vehicles had already cordoned off the property. A uniformed officer blocked our path before we even reached the driveway. I rolled down the window and looked into his tense face.
"No entry," he growled, and I could feel his irritation.
"Yes, you will let us through. I live on this property," I stated firmly, my thoughts already racing in a hundred different directions.
"And you are?"
"Diamond Prince."
The officer hesitated briefly, then his radio crackled, and he turned his gaze away. "We have him in custody now," reported one of the voices through the static.
My chest tightened. Saphir had been caught. The relief that he was no longer on the loose mingled with a bittersweet feeling. Now he would indeed have to pay for his actions. Father's plan was now defunct. Finally, the officer cleared the way, and we drove past the checkpoint onto the estate. The tension within me continued to build. What would I find inside the villa?
Massaru stopped in front of the door, and I got out. Apparently, I had arrived just in time to witness Saphir's removal. His arms were handcuffed behind his back, and his eyes glinted with anger as he looked at me.
"Do I have you to thank for this, brother?" he snarled at me.
The officer stopped, so Saphir came to a halt in front of me. I felt only contempt for him.
"No, Saphir, you have only yourself to blame. No one else is responsible for your actions but you. It's time to take responsibility for what you've done, something you never learned because you always hid behind Father when things got serious."
I then turned to the officer behind him. "Please make sure he continues to receive his medication. It's important for his psychological issues."
"Your father has already provided us with his medical records," the officer replied tersely, forcing Saphir into the police car.
I waited by the door until they were out of sight. Father stood upstairs in his office at the window, also watching the spectacle of the departing vehicles. Now it was time to enter the lion's den. Father had seen me, and I knew he was waiting. The atmosphere inside the villa was tense, with staff running around in a panic, doors wide open, and no one quite knowing what to do. I, however, had a clear goal in mind: Father's office on the first floor.
The door to Father's office was ajar, and the heavy smell of cigar smoke hung in the air. Father, filled with furious dissatisfaction, started yelling at me as soon as I entered.
"How could this happen? Didn't I make myself clear? Diamond, it was just a few more days!" he shouted.
Calmly, I closed the door behind me, and in a strange way, I felt deeply relaxed all of a sudden. "Father, I did everything within my power. This was not foreseeable."
"Then it wasn't enough! Did you see the police presence here? Why are you only arriving now?"
"I secured Ms. Tsukino. After the interview with the Kou brother, reporters were besieging her apartment as well. I owe it to her to ensure her safety, especially after what Saphir did," I explained calmly.
