I had been awake for quite a while and watched Usagi sleep. She kept smiling slightly. But now I realized again what she had said yesterday. She would end it with me as soon as she left Davao. She had called it a monogamous relationship with that singer. I got up and went to the kitchen. I couldn't sleep any more anyway.
"Oh, Mr. Prince, you're already awake. But your coffee isn't quite ready yet," Maria greeted me as I stepped into the kitchen.
"That's all right. I'll get one on the way. Be so good as to prepare breakfast for Mrs. Tsukino. I have another appointment and don't know exactly when I'll be back."
Maria nodded with a friendly laugh. I threw on my jacket and went to the car. Of course I would have liked to stay close to her to make the most of this last time, but I couldn't. I needed some distance because it was awful watching her and knowing that she was going to another man in Tokyo. That she had actually decided against me.
The engine howled loudly as I drove off. At first I drove aimlessly through the neighborhood and suddenly found myself in front of Kunzite and Kaori's estate, even though I hadn't consciously headed for it. Well, since I was here. Kunzite certainly had an open ear.
I got out of the car and rang the bell without paying attention to the time.
"Good morning, Mr. Prince," said the housekeeper as she opened the door for me.
"Good morning. Are they both awake yet?" I asked politely.
"Yes, forced to now. Aren't you supposed to be with your Usagi? What are you doing here at this hour?" Kaori's cutting voice growled down the stairs.
I looked up at her. She was standing there wrapped in a black robe. "It's complicated. Can you please send Kunzite down for me?"
Kaori mumbled something unintelligible, but I took that as consent.
"Can I offer you something to drink?" asked the housekeeper, who was still standing next to me.
"Yes, I'll have a coffee. Please bring it to me on the terrace. Thank you."
I took a seat and rested my head in my hands. The steaming coffee was in front of me.
"Usagi?" I heard Kunzite ask from the door and raised my eyes.
"Yes. It's over. She told me yesterday that she's finally made up her mind about the musician."
Kunzite sat down at the table with me and looked me over carefully. He thought carefully about what he should say, I knew that this was a difficult situation and so we just kept quiet.
"And you're just going to accept that?" Kaori suddenly intervened in the conversation. It was obvious that she wouldn't keep her nose out of my business.
"I don't have any other choice. I can't force her to stay with me," I whispered to her. I didn't feel like arguing with her at the moment.
"Wow, it's unbearable the way you're wallowing in self-pity here. Summon up the last of your self-respect and tell her how you feel about her. You're even slower than Kunzite back then," she huffed.
Kunzite gave her a look that made me smile, but didn't say anything.
"Can't you fly somewhere else on your broom and leave me alone here? You're annoying, Kaori, even more than usual."
She grinned broadly at me. "I suppose you'd like that. Besides, you were at my door, if you don't mind me reminding you. I'm certainly not going to stand by and watch you run into your misfortune again."
I raised an eyebrow skeptically. "And what exactly is your plan? Should I just keep Usagi here in Davao until the end of her days?"
Kunzite, meanwhile, suppressed a laugh. I could see exactly how he had to pull himself together. Kaori let out an annoyed snort.
"Idiot. It's simple: if you can't tell her how you feel, then I'll do it for you. I'll have a conversation with her, woman to woman, and introduce her to the emotional world of the Prince of Darkness. Come on, I can handle it. You've got nothing left to lose anyway."
