A loud, shrill ringtone tore me from the comatose state I was in. I blinked a few times, but didn't move. Then I heard Kunzite's voice next to me.
"Sweetheart... we're in Sapporo... Be glad it's just Sapporo. Diamond wanted to fly to Davao... because Usagi was at his place yesterday... Yes, let's just wake up first... I told him that too and that he needs to talk to her once and for all... What else did you expect?... He's feeling really bad. Did you have anything to do with Usagi's visit?... Are you sure? ... Alright... I'll see what I can do."
When I was sure he had finished the conversation, I turned my head to him. He was standing next to the bed, looking out the window.
"What does the witch want at this hour?" I grumbled sleepily.
"Oh, the lord has finally awakened. I've been trying to wake you for an hour, unsuccessfully. But as soon as Kaori calls, you wake up. Interesting to see the effect she has on you, even at a distance. She wanted to know where we are. After you showed up yesterday, she checked that the jet had taken off. But, Diamond, she's right. We have to go back this afternoon, the trial is tomorrow."A deep growl escaped my throat. "Only if you promise me I'll never have to see her again."
"Which one are you talking about now? Usagi or Kaori?" Kunzite asked amused.Damn, why didn't he have a hangover, and mine felt like it was enough for two.
"Both! Did your wife encourage her to do this yesterday?" I muttered, pulling the pillow over my head.
Damn, my head felt like it was about to explode. What else had I drunk after I picked up Kunzite?
"No, Kaori says it was Usagi's own decision, and by the way, she's furious with you."
"I don't care. She should stay out of it," I mumbled back and pressed the pillow harder on my head, hoping to dull the pain.
"Come on, get out of bed. Coffee is ready, and the jet is expecting us in less than two hours. You still need to shower; you reek of yesterday's bar."
"How can anyone be so damn cheerful?" I grumbled at him.
"Counter question, how can anyone be such an eternal pessimist? Now, off to the bathroom with you. I don't want to suffocate next to you on the jet."He pulled the blanket away from me and managed to get my tired body moving. Why was I cursed with such a family? Was I a mass murderer in a past life or something?
Kunzite actually managed to get me on the jet within two hours. As much as I wanted to protest, I was simply unable to, and I was glad to sleep more on the jet. The two-hour flight went by too quickly. When Kunzite woke me up in Tokyo, I surprisingly felt relatively good again.
At the airport, I would have preferred to turn around and get back on the jet. The prospect of further confrontations, be it with Usagi or Kaori, gave me more headaches - and I already had enough.
The witch was already waiting at the exit, glaring at us. She stormed towards me, and before I could react, she raised her hand, and a burning pain shot through my left cheek.
"Ouch, what the hell?" I snapped at her.Kaori, who always meddled in my life, put her hands on her hips and stood in front of me. "I should be asking you that! What happened with you yesterday? Couldn't you at least listen to her?" she yelled back.
Within seconds, she had me in attack mode. Her persistent way of meddling in my life almost drove me to fury.
"And then what? Have her blame me for everything again? Thanks, she already did that, I don't need to hear it again. I got it the first time. I'm supposed to stay away from her because I'm the cause of her pain," I countered and tried to push past Kaori. But she grabbed me and pulled me behind her. Like an iron claw, her fingers closed tightly around my wrist, firmly guiding me to one of those uncomfortable metal benches and applied slight pressure to my shoulder. I had no choice but to sit down.
"You will listen to her now, whether you want to or not," she said with firm conviction in her voice.
