Iris's pov:-
The screech of tires echoed through the night as I pulled into the penthouse parking lot. I needed to see Adrain. Now.
Punching in the main door code, I headed for the elevator to he first floor.
The elevator lurched to a stop, the doors hissing open. The scent of Whiskey, spice, and smoke assaulted my senses. It was a combination that was unmistakably him, and it washed over me with a wave of familiarity. In that instant, the tension that had coiled in my stomach all day began to ease. It was like a comforting hug, a reminder of a safe haven, and I felt a sense of calm settle over me.
Thank Goodness,
Adrain was Here.I checked the living room, but he wasn't there. He must be in the bedroom.
Pushing open the bedroom door, I found Adrian on the edge of the bed. He wasn't just sitting- his whole body seemed slumped forward, his head buried deep in his hands. The air around him felt heavy, and a single glance told me something was very wrong.
"Adrain", I ventured softly, my hand hovering hesitantly near his shoulder.
As Adrain's gaze met mine, a pang of worry shot through me. The sight of him was almost unbearable. He seemed to have shrunk in on himself, his entire posture radiating exhaustion. The color had leached from his face, leaving it pale and drawn. Even the muscles that usually held him stong appeared taut with concealed tension. It was clear he was on the brink of something, and the worry gnawed at my insides.
"Iris! What are you doing here?" His voice broke, a mix of anger and something deeper lurking beneath the surface.
Iris. He never calls me Iris; he always calls me Baby or Lioness. My heart started to ache a little.
"What do you mean? I just came to see you", I stammered, my voice cracking with a mix of hurt and confusion.
"Really? Or Did your dad told you that, 'My precious princess, my plan has failed. Now, only you can finish what I couldn't. Go to Adrain', Hmm Did he?" He said, his voice laden with darkness and despair.
The world spun as his words ripped through me, each one a shard of ice extinguishing the flicker of hope I desperately clung to. I felt the ground crumble beneath my feet, the future I'd dared to believe in dissolving into dust.
My voice cracked, a pathetic whisper, "What... What do you mean?" Tears welled in my eyes blurring the world around me.
"Don't pretend you don't know, Iris. You know exactly what I'm talking about. First, your Dad tried to take my shadow file, now you're acting innocent", Adrain growled.
An uneasy wave washed over me as Adrain's words sank in: Dad tried to steal his file? I knew he was up to something, but I never thought he would go that far. He's crossed all the limits.
"What? Dad tried to steal your file?" I asked in disbelief.
Adrian's laugh scraped like nails on a chalkboard, "playing dumb, are we, Iris? So you had nothing to do with your father's little thievery? Don't think your sweet act fools me anymore. You think I can't see what you're after?"
Everything he said ripped my heart apart. It was like a knife twisting in my chest. Tears streamed down my face as I choked out, "How could you even think that? You don't trust me at all?"
"I didn't trust you, Really? You are the only person I ever trusted, and you fucking betrayed me", He held my elbow and pulled me close, "How could you do this to me, Iris?"
I stared into his eyes, searching for the pain he claimed to feel. But I hadn't done anything. He just assumed the worst. Maybe he thought I was involved with Dad in stealing his file, but that wasn't true! I trusted him Completely, even when Dad warned me he'd only break my heart.
I trusted him, but he didn't trust me.
He accused me of betrayal, but he was the one who betrayed me.
He hurt me and shattered my heart as if it meant nothing.Tears welled up, blurring my vision. A crushing weight settled in my chest, stealing my breath. My thoughts became a tangled mess, and the room spun widly around me. I needed to get out. Away from him, away from this Suffocating pain. Every instinct urged me to flee his vicinity.
My final glance locked with his, a storm of hurt mirrored in his eyes. But mine weren't filled with just pain, a flicker of betrayal flickered within them too. I tore myself away, the weight of his accusations a heavy anchor in my chest. Tears blurred the cityscape as I fled the penthouse, each sob a silent scream of heartbreak.
I poured my heart out to him, a love so fierce it burned. Yet, it wasn't enough to reach him. Now, the embers of that love leave only ashes in their wake.
What Do I Do now?
