Adhira
Numb.
That was the only emotion I feeling as doctor informed us about Arth and his health.
After he was done, I looked beside me, and I wasn't able to see Sir.I ran around the whole floor trying to find him. The panic in my heart was already a lot and his sudden disappearance just fueled it more.
After a lot of searching myself, asking people here and there and also going to security for CCTV footage, I finally found Sir at the extreme corner of the floor, Arth's room was in.
As I reached near him, I realized that he was crying.
"Sir!" I called out, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. He turned towards me, his face stained with tears, which were still flowing.
"Adhira, my son, my Arth..." He said, between his sobs.
"Sir, calm down. He'll be fine..." I said, as I sat down in front of him.
"My so, my Arth..." He continued, despite my tries to calm him down.
"Sir... Ritvik Sir... Listen to me..." I said, still with a tender voice, but he was actually hyperventilating.
"Ritvik, listen to me! " I called out, it was a very involuntary action, but it shocked both of us.
He finally came back to normal with the sudden shock of me calling him by his name.
I gently cupped his face, and looked at him directly in the eye before saying, "I know that you are very disturbed with what we heard earlier, but it shouldn't hold you back right now."
"But Adh---" He was about to object, but i stopped him.
"Arth is your life, he is the reason why you take your every next breath, we can't let anything happen to it. We can't let anything happen to your life, to our life." I said, and hugged him, slowly rubbing his back.
"Now we'll go to the doctor who will do some tests and tell us if you're a match or not. He says that parents can be a match, so we've to just hope for the best." I said and stood up.
I started walking but suddenly stopped when I felt a hand around my wrist.
"The bone marrow won't match." He whispered."What do you mean?" I asked, confusion.
"I said the bone marrow won't match, I'm not his father." He said and I was shocked for a moment.
I quickly composed myself as I asked him to clearly tell what he actually meant.
"He is Tara and her boyfriend's child." He said, and for a moment I felt that something is wrong with my mind, but when he repeated it, I realized that he is telling the truth.
"Are you sure, Sir?" I asked.
"Yes Adhira, I'm very much sure about that. I never touched her in our two years of marriage. After she left, there was a basket on our doorstep which had Arth in it." He said and I again sat in front of him, holding his hand as he slowly unveiled his past.
"It was just four to give months after I was realised from jail. She had anyway charged me for sexual offense, so nobody thought that he cannot be my child." He continued.
"So you mean to say that you raised a child who is kind of a reminder of a betrayal to you?" I asked, a sudden heaviness in my voice.
"Yes, even I wasn't ready to accept him, but you know, as they say, everything happens for a reason. I was pretty depressed those days and the day, I found him outside my door, I was about to let him be, but he started crying." He said and there was a sad smile on his face.
"That day, I just placed a hand on his stomach and he called down. I tried to walk off, but then he held my finger so tight, that it made me feel something. It gave me a reason to live. That's why I named him Arth." He said, and I was actually crying hearing it.
"But see the fate, I can never be a good father, that's what the world told me and I hate to accept it, but maybe they are right."
"No... No sir... " I tried to intervene.
"It is the fact Adhira. I'm just a helpless human right now, who cannot do anything at the moment." He said.
"We can." I said and he looked at me with confusion.
"We can do something." I said.
"But what?" He asked.
"We'll go to your ex-wife and ask her to do the tests." I replied.
"Bu---"
"Sir, the doctors are also trying there best to find a donor, but it would be great if it's a person biologically related to Arth, so let's take a try." I explained.
"The problem is not that Adhira. You don't know Tara, she's the most cunning person you'll ever meet, she won't agree." He replied with a frown.
"She will. She has to agree. I will even beg in front of her if she wants, but I'm going to make her help us." I said.
"That's the problem Adhira, you're so nice that's why you think others would be the same. But it's not the reality. The reality is that she is never going to help us and I'm a terrible father." He said, his sudden outburst was expected but still I couldn't let him call himself that.
"You are not a terrible father. You are the best father in the world." I said.
"Bu---"
"I grew up with my biological parents who didn't love me enough because I am a girl, and you have given Arth unconditional love, even when he is not biologically related to you. If anything, it just increases the respect I have for you." I replied and he looked at me silently.
Within a second he wrapped his arms around me, and pulled me in a hug.
"But how are we going to find her? I don't have her address or anything." He said, breaking the hug.
"She filed a case against you, right?" I asked and he nodded in agreement.
"Ask your lawyer to contact her lawyer, who will be able to give us the address." I said.
