Adhira
Two days.
It's been two days since the doctor told us about Arth's condition.
It's also been two days since we were convincing Tara's lawyer to give us her address.Me, Mom and Ritvik are currently in the hospital as the doctor said it would be better for Arth to be in the hospital till he has the surgery.
I was feeding him the breakfast while sitting on one side of the bed while mom sat on the other.
Ritvik was leaning against the wall typing something very furiously on his phone.I called him by his name very involuntarily, but then he insisted that since I've done it once already, it should remain the same.
"Mumma, the breakfast is yum!" Arth said, and my attention again focussed on him.
My heart pained for him. He is such a lovely kid. His innocent smile makes me love him more. He is too young to comprehend the surrounding, yet too mature to understand it.
"Yes! Finally!" I heard someone scream, and looked at the door to find Sam coming in.
Sam is Ritvik's best friend cum lawyer and also my new friend.
"How are you doing Champ?" He asked, giving Arth a fist bump.
"Very good!" He replied, showing his thumb.
Ritvik calmly walked out talking random things with Sam, to not make it feel like it was a deliberate attempt to do so.
I quickly finished feeding him breakfast and then gave him the medicines.
They actually make him feel really sleepy, so I let him take some rest and walked out, to find Ritvik and Sam discussing something serious."What happened? Why were you so excited back then?" I asked.
He looked at me and before he could reply, Ritvik said, "He got Tara's address from the lawyer."
"So? Isn't it a good thing? Why are you so serious?" I asked, confused at their behavior.
"The address is of a very poor area, it doesn't sound like Tara at all." Ritvik replied, calmly.
"So, you want to say that the lawyer gave us a fake address?" I asked.
"I don't think so Bhabhi, but the way Ritvik is explaining it, I doubt so." Sam replied.
"But we don't really have any choice, let's give it a try." I said.
Before anyone could say anything I continued, "You both go and quickly get the car, I'll go and inform mom till the time." I said but still they didn't move at all.
"Go!!!" I sort of yelled at them and both of them immediately went.
.
We three started going to the address in the car. While Ritvik was driving, Sam was instructing him with the directions.
I on the other hand was just replaying what I will say to her so that she agrees without much drama.
After a while the car stopped, and I looked to see that the road ended at that point.
"Have we missed any turn or something?" I asked."No bhabhi, we are correct, the location is two hundred metres more, but I don't think the car can go there." Sam replied.
"Ok, so let's walk." I said, and immediately got down from the car, not giving them time to say something against it.
We started walking till the time Sam stopped in front of a house.
It looked old and kind of shabby."I think you were right, this doesn't look like a place where Tara would live, considering she left him for money." I whispered to him.
Before we could have any more conversation, Ritvik knocked on the door.
The door was opened by a lady who was wearing some really old clothes, and her condition looked a little bad."Ritvik..." The lady whispered.
"Is she Tara?" I whisper asked Sam.
"You haven't seen her?" He asked back.
"Where would I see her? Her photos are not present at home and she backed off before the court hearing." I answered in the same whisper.
"Tara..." Ritvik said, and then I knew that we have reached the right place.
She looked at me and Sam with confusion and then at Ritvik. By that time, some of the neighbors had came out of their homes to hear whatever is going on.
"Can we come inside?" I asked, looking around at the ladies.
She hesitated, but stepped aside for us to enter when she saw all the neighbors ladies.
As we entered inside, I realized the house was actually in a bad condition. It looked better from the outside, but inside it looked terrible.
It wasn't even a house, it was just a single room, with washroom at a corner and a kitchen counter at the other. The lighting was dull, and so were the walls. It confused me, but I didn't ask anything, waiting for Ritvik to do so.
"Tara... What's this? What are you doing here?" He asked, and I could tell he was trying to maintain his calm, by the way he was angrily fisting his palm.
"They say that you have to pay for all your sins in the same birth. I did a sin and now it's my payback." She replied, her eyes on the floor.
"But... How?" Ritvik asked, very much confused like me and Sam.
"I didn't value your love, how was I supposed to live happily?" She said, and by now, with each passing sentence, she was confusing me more.
I looked at Sam, who was looking around with doubt in his eyes.
I went near her and slightly lifted her chin, which made her face me.
"Hello, my name is Adhira." I said, forwarding a handshake.I know this might sound pathetic, but I needed her to talk to me, so that I can ask her for the surgery, the main reason why we are here.
"You're his wife, right?" She asked and I nodded in agreement.
"That's nice. Please never leave him. He is a nice guy." She said, and I looked at Ritvik was still holding back his anger silently.
"See, I hate to beat around the bush, but I want you to come with us and take a few tests." I said, because honestly, at that moment, it didn't matter to me what her past is, the only person that mattered was Arth.
"Tests? Why?" She asked.
"Arth..." I said, and looked at her.
As I thought she was confused because she didn't know his name,
"Our son has a medical condition and he needs a bone marrow transplant, the doctor said it would be easy to do so, if the donor is someone biologically related to him. We want you to come with us and take the tests to see if you are a match or not." I said, in one go."A... Arth?" She stuttered, "I know I can't call him that, but my s...son?" She whispered.
Before I could reply anything Ritvik said, "Yes, you don't have the right to do so!"
Saying so he literally stormed out of the house, followed by Sam.
I looked at her who had a few tears in her eyes. She looked at me and wiped those tears, before saying, "I will come with you."
