Back at the Einzberns castle, explanations of the daunting type were all to leave their mouths as Keiji explained in full about the case of Shinji and Sakura under the fossil of a bastard that was Zouken. Natural disgust not enough to explain the problems they felt with every bit of it as they continued to discuss about their side of things. Sakura unable to speak of the crimes committed against her whilst Shinji hugged Sakura closer.

"So you mean to tell me you are both the activation for the Grail and you can also function as a Master? Is that not against the rules or something?" Keiji asked.

Irisviel shook her head. "The whole ritual is already unfair. But this has been the role of the Einzberns. Ever since my ancestor, Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern, became the Greater Grail with the ancestors of the Makiri and Tohsaka families, this is what the Holy Grail War has been about. The materialisation of what every magus is meant to dream of: guidance to the Root, which is what the wish-granting portion of is meant for."

"The Root?" Keiji muttered.

"Think of it as the existence of all things. I don't know much about it, but I read some books on it back in Chaldea. No one has ever experienced it before, so it's heavily sought after," Mash explained to her Master.

"That leaves several questions. Even after having 3 other Holy Grail Wars, has there not been anyone who has used the Holy Grail to make a wish? We've only had one Holy Grail War. The wish... wasn't used in that way, but a wish was still granted. How has it failed on your end with thrice the attempts?" Olga questioned.

"It would be human nature. When the three families collaborated together for the Holy Grail, there was a lot of fighting. This is when they decided to get other magus separate from their families to fight the Holy Grail War for them, but it was quick to end a bloody mess as control over the Holy Grail only led to more betrayals and there was never a chance for the Holy Grail to be used.

Keiji nodded. "Talk about a messy affair. Still, it's strange. I don't know how the Holy Grail was in all the wars previously, but this one feels strange. I can't put a finger on it, but it feels corrupted and messed up. Did something happen?"

Irisviel shook her head. "I know the Einzberns failed horribly in the Third Holy Grail War. They tried to summon a Servant who would fit well with the Avenger Class that you've shown me about, but I don't know if that would be what's responsible. I do agree about the changes. This city itself feels corrupted."

'So there could be more than one reason on how to summon an Avenger Class Servant?' Jeanne Alter thought to herself.

"I know I'm not one to talk, but it's really bad if the founders of the Holy Grail really messed up that badly," Romani mentioned, sipping on his coffee as usual.

Irisviel nodded. "I can't argue with that. I'm unsure if Zouken may have overlooked something or even allowed it to continue for this goals, but it's true that something horrible has happened to affect the system as we know it."

"I don't think I asked yet, but what powers the Holy Grail? I mean, I get it can only be achieved after all Servants are gone and a Master is left, but that is all I understand."

"It's the soul of Heroic Spirits themselves. Although they call go back to the Throne of Heroes, it's the power of Heroic Spirits that are the fuel for the Holy Grail. An abundance of magical energy to make any wish come true," Irisviel explained.

Battle senses went off not long after that explanation as several shadows had already appeared outside of the Einzbern castle. "That ability to come out of nowhere. That can only belong to the Assassin Class."

"We mean you no harm."

"I find that hard to believe. Want me to scorch them, Master?" Jeanne Alter asked, not doing it right away as Mash's warning from earlier had already made her hold back from being overly aggressive right from the start.
