I woke up slowly, my head pounding and my mouth dry. The room was dimly lit, a soft glow casting gentle shadows on the walls. It took a moment for me to realize I wasn't at the party anymore.
Panic surged through me as I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness forced me back down. I looked around, trying to piece together where I was. The room was neat and unfamiliar, with personal touches that hinted at someone's private space.
The door creaked open, and Tsukishima walked in, looking concerned. His expression softened when he saw I was awake.
"Hey," he said quietly, coming over to sit on the edge of the bed. "How are you feeling?"
I struggled to find my voice. "What... what am I doing here?"
Tsukishima rubbed the back of his neck. "You passed out at the party. I couldn't just leave you there, so I brought you here. You're in no condition to go back to your place."
I looked around, still trying to process everything. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause any trouble."
He shook his head. "It's not your fault. You were pretty out of it. I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
A silence fell between us, charged with unspoken words. My mind raced, trying to piece together the night's events and the strange comfort of being in Tsukishima's space.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Why do you care, anyway? You never cared about any of my friends before."
Tsukishima frowned. "That's not fair, Blackfire. Just because I had a thing with Taye doesn't mean I'm heartless."
I sat up, despite the dizziness. "Oh, so now you're trying to be the hero? Bringing the drunk girl home so you can feel good about yourself?"
His eyes flashed with irritation. "You were in no condition to take care of yourself. What was I supposed to do, leave you there?"
"Maybe you should have," I snapped, feeling the anger rise. "I don't need your pity."
Tsukishima stood up, running a hand through his hair. "This isn't about pity. It's about doing the right thing. You were in trouble, and I helped. Simple as that."
I glared at him, the words coming out before I could stop them. "You're just trying to make up for what you did to Taye. You think this makes you a good guy?"
He looked taken aback, his face tightening with hurt. "I'm not trying to make up for anything. I just didn't want anything bad to happen to you."
For a moment, the room was silent, the weight of our words hanging in the air. I felt a pang of guilt, realizing that maybe I had misjudged his intentions. But the anger and confusion were still too strong.
"Fine," I muttered, lying back down. "Just... leave me alone."
Tsukishima hesitated, then nodded. "I'll be in the living room if you need anything. Try to get some rest."
As he left the room, I closed my eyes, feeling a mix of anger, guilt, and something else I couldn't quite place. The night had taken an unexpected turn, and I wasn't sure what to make of it. But one thing was certain: this wasn't the end of the story. Not by a long shot.
