Ungrounded

The next day, I was in my room, still thinking about the conversation with my mom and everything that had happened with Tsukishima. Just as I was starting to settle into some homework, my phone buzzed with an incoming call from Sario.

"Hey, Sario," I answered, glad for the distraction.

"Hey, Blackfire! We're having a little hangout tonight, and I really want you to come," Sario said, her voice full of excitement. "It'll be fun, I promise."

I hesitated, remembering I was still technically grounded. "I don't know, Sario. I'm still grounded from the last time I was out."

"Please, Blackfire?" she pleaded. "It's just a small get-together, and I promise it'll be worth it. Plus, I really need my best friend there."

I sighed, torn between wanting to go and respecting my mom's rules. "Okay, let me see if I can convince my mom. No promises, though."

"Thanks! I'll keep my fingers crossed," Sario said before we hung up.

I took a deep breath and headed downstairs to find my mom. She was in the living room, reading a book. I approached her, trying to think of the best way to ask.

"Mom, can I talk to you for a minute?" I said, sitting down next to her.

"Of course, honey. What's up?" she asked, setting her book aside.

"So, Sario just called and invited me to a little hangout tonight with some friends," I began, choosing my words carefully. "I know I'm still grounded, but I've been thinking about what you said yesterday. About facing things head-on and not letting fear hold me back. I think going out and being with my friends might help me clear my head."

She looked at me, her expression thoughtful. "You know you're grounded for a reason, right?"

"I know, and I'm really sorry for worrying you the other night," I said earnestly. "But I promise I'll be responsible this time. I really need this, Mom. I need to feel normal again and spend time with my friends."

She sighed, but I could see her resolve softening. "Alright, Blackfire. I'll unground you, but you have to promise to be careful and come home by a reasonable time. No more staying out all night."

A wave of relief washed over me. "I promise, Mom. Thank you so much."

She smiled, giving me a hug. "You're welcome, sweetheart. Now go and have a good time. Just remember to check in with me, okay?"

"Okay, I will," I said, feeling a mix of excitement and gratitude.

I quickly went back to my room and called Sario. "I'm in! I'll be there tonight."

"Yes! I knew you could do it," Sario exclaimed. "See you tonight, Blackfire!"

As I hung up the phone, I felt a sense of anticipation building. Tonight was a chance to relax and maybe even gain some clarity on the whole situation with Tsukishima. For now, though, I was just looking forward to spending time with my friends and enjoying a much-needed break.
