Tate and I sat on my bed, the awkward tension slowly melting away as we started to talk. It felt surreal to have her back in my life after so much time and change.
"So, tell me everything," Tate said, leaning forward eagerly. "What have you been up to?"
I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. "Well, a lot has happened. I've been focusing a lot on my ice skating. I haven't been selected for any tournaments yet, but I'm working hard. It's been a struggle, but I love it."
Tate's eyes lit up. "You're still skating! That's amazing. I always knew you'd stick with it."
I smiled, appreciating her enthusiasm. "Yeah, it's been a big part of my life. But it's not all good news. Sario and I had a huge fight, and we haven't spoken since. It's been really hard."
Tate's expression softened. "I'm sorry to hear that, Blackfire. I know how close you two were."
"Yeah," I said, my voice heavy with emotion. "It's been rough. And then there's my confusing love life."
Tate raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Do tell."
I sighed, trying to find the right words. "Well, Tsukishima and I have gotten close. Really close. But it's complicated. He can be so frustrating, but there's something about him... I don't know."
Tate gave me a knowing look. "Sounds like things are really complicated."
"You have no idea," I replied with a laugh. "But enough about me. How have you been? What brought you back?"
Tate shrugged, her eyes clouding over for a moment. "I realized that running away wasn't the answer. I needed to face things, to try and make amends."
"I'm glad you're back," I said sincerely. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too," she said, giving my hand a squeeze.
After our heart-to-heart, we headed downstairs. Tsukishima was still there, sitting on the couch with his homework. He looked up as we entered the room, his eyes flickering with surprise when he saw us together.
"Tate," he said, standing up. "Can we talk?"
She nodded, her expression guarded. "Sure."
They moved to the side, and I watched as Tsukishima took a deep breath. "I want to apologize for what happened on the rooftop that day. I know I hurt you, and I'm sorry. I rejected you because... I was scared. I didn't know how to handle my feelings, and I took the easy way out. It was wrong."
Tate looked at him for a long moment before finally nodding. "I appreciate your apology, Tsukishima. It really hurt, but I understand now. I forgive you."
He let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Tate. I mean it."
With the air cleared between them, the three of us found ourselves hanging out together. It was a strange but comforting feeling, like pieces of my life were slowly falling back into place.
