Two weeks had passed since that awkward night at Sario's house. Life had been a whirlwind of school, ice skating, and various other commitments, leaving me with little time to dwell on the confusion surrounding Tsukishima. But now, I had something exciting to look forward to: our school's two-day trip, which was a combined trip with Nekoma, Kuroo's school.
I was especially excited because I hadn't had the chance to hang out with Kuroo much lately. The thought of spending time with him and getting a break from the usual routine had me practically buzzing with anticipation.
I finished packing my bag, double-checking to make sure I had everything I needed. Clothes, toiletries, snacks, and a few other essentials were all neatly tucked away. Satisfied, I zipped up my bag and slung it over my shoulder.
"Bye, Mom! I'm heading to school now!" I called out as I headed for the door.
"Have fun and be safe!" she replied from the kitchen.
I arrived at school early, not wanting to risk missing the bus for the trip. As I walked towards the group of students gathered near the buses, I spotted Sario chatting animatedly with Tanaka. I waved at her, but she seemed too engrossed in her conversation to notice.
With a small sigh, I looked around for a familiar face. Most of the students were either chatting in groups or checking their phones. Just then, I spotted Tsukishima standing alone, looking slightly annoyed as usual. I considered my options and decided it was better to sit next to someone I knew rather than a complete stranger.
I walked over to him, my heart pounding slightly. "Hey, Tsukishima. Is it okay if I sit with you on the bus?"
He glanced at me, his expression unreadable. "Sure," he said flatly, moving his bag to make space for me.
"Thanks," I said, settling into the seat next to him.
The bus ride started off in silence, the tension between us palpable. I tried to focus on the scenery outside the window, but my thoughts kept drifting back to our last encounter. Finally, Tsukishima broke the silence.
"Why are you sitting with me? What happened to Sario?" he asked, his tone slightly irritated.
"She's sitting with Tanaka," I replied, feeling a bit awkward.
He sighed, leaning back in his seat. "Figures."
We lapsed back into silence, but it felt slightly less tense now that we had at least acknowledged each other. As the bus continued its journey, I found myself relaxing a bit. Despite his usual annoyance, it was nice to have a familiar face next to me.
After a while, I decided to break the silence again. "So, are you looking forward to the trip?"
He shrugged. "It's just a school trip. Nothing special."
I smiled slightly. "Well, I'm excited. It's a nice break from the usual routine."
He glanced at me, his expression softening just a bit. "Yeah, I guess."
We continued chatting sporadically throughout the trip, the conversation occasionally dipping into silence but never feeling too uncomfortable. By the time we arrived at our destination, I felt a bit more at ease around Tsukishima.
As we stepped off the bus, I spotted Kuroo and waved excitedly. He grinned and waved back, making his way over to us.
"Hey, Blackfire! Tsukishima," he greeted us, his usual confident smile in place.
"Hey, Kuroo," I replied, feeling a surge of happiness at seeing him.
"Ready for this trip?" he asked, slinging an arm around my shoulders.
"Definitely," I said, glancing at Tsukishima, who was watching us with an unreadable expression.
As we all headed towards the cabins where we'd be staying, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation. This trip was already off to an interesting start, and I had a feeling it was going to be full of surprises.
