On thin ice

The school day dragged on, whispers and stares making it feel even longer. By the time the final bell rang, I was ready to escape. I headed straight to the ice rink, my sanctuary from the chaos of the day.

As I laced up my skates, the cool air of the rink helped to calm my frayed nerves. I stepped onto the ice, the familiar glide beneath my feet instantly soothing. Skating had always been my way of clearing my mind, and today was no different.

I lost myself in the rhythm of my movements, pushing my body to the limit, trying to skate away the frustration and anger. As I executed a particularly difficult jump, I heard a familiar voice call out from the sidelines.

"Nice form, Blackfire."

I looked over and saw Kuroo, leaning casually against the railing with a grin on his face. My heart skipped a beat. Kuroo was someone I had always admired from afar. We went to different schools, but we had met through mutual friends and had hit it off immediately.

"Kuroo!" I called out, skating over to him. "What are you doing here?"

He shrugged, his grin widening. "Had some free time and thought I'd check out the rink. Didn't expect to find you here, though."

I felt a blush creep up my cheeks. "Yeah, this is my usual spot after school. Helps me clear my head."

Kuroo nodded, looking thoughtful. "Mind if I join you?"

"Of course not," I said, my heart racing a little faster as he stepped onto the ice with me.

We skated together for a while, falling into an easy rhythm. Kuroo was a natural, and it felt good to have someone to practice with. As we glided across the ice, we talked about everything and nothing, the conversation flowing effortlessly.

"So," Kuroo said after a while, "I'm having a party at my place tonight. You should come."

I hesitated, thinking about the last party and all the drama that had unfolded. "I don't know, Kuroo. Parties haven't exactly been my thing lately."

He skated closer, looking at me with those intense eyes. "Come on, Blackfire. It'll be fun. Besides, I'll be there to make sure nothing crazy happens. You trust me, right?"

I couldn't help but smile. "Alright, fine. I'll come. But only because you asked."

Kuroo grinned triumphantly. "Great! It's going to be awesome. And I promise, no drama this time."

We continued to skate, the conversation shifting to lighter topics. For the first time in days, I felt a sense of normalcy. Kuroo had a way of making everything seem okay, and I found myself looking forward to the party.

As we finished our practice, Kuroo walked me to the entrance of the rink. "I'll see you tonight, then?"

"Yeah," I said, feeling a flutter of excitement. "I'll be there."

He gave me a quick hug before heading off, leaving me with a smile on my face. The day had started off rough, but things were looking up. With Kuroo by my side, maybe tonight's party would be different.
