Back home, I threw myself into working on the project. The earlier confrontation with Tsukishima kept replaying in my mind, but I tried to push it aside, focusing instead on researching our chosen historical event. The silence of my room was comforting, a stark contrast to the chaos of the day.
Just as I was getting into a good rhythm, my phone rang. I picked it up, seeing Sario's name flashing on the screen. I answered with a sigh, already anticipating the conversation.
"Hey, Sario," I said, trying to sound more cheerful than I felt.
"Blackfire!" Sario's voice was bubbly and excited. "You won't believe it! Tanaka and I are hanging out tonight with some friends, and I really want you to come. Please?"
I sighed again, a mix of frustration and fondness for my friend. "I can't, Sario. I'm grounded. My mom was really mad when I got home last night."
"Aw, come on!" she pleaded. "Just sneak out. It's going to be so much fun. Tanaka might even... you know... kiss me."
I chuckled despite myself. "You're really into him, huh?"
"Yes!" she said, her excitement palpable even over the phone. "I just need you there for moral support. Please?"
"I really can't," I said, hating to disappoint her. "I'm already in enough trouble as it is."
Sario sighed, the disappointment clear in her voice. "Fine, I get it. But you owe me one, okay?"
"Okay, okay," I said, smiling. "Have fun tonight. Text me all the details."
"You know I will," she said, her mood brightening a little. "Talk to you later."
After hanging up, I returned to my project, trying to concentrate. The words on the screen started to blur together, and before long, I felt my eyelids growing heavy. The exhaustion from the previous night caught up with me, and I found myself drifting off to sleep at my desk.
