hello, and welcome to round two of madeleine's rambling sessions! 🤗

so, first off, i'm sorry for how long this story is — it's probably like twice as long as black star: the legend begins, but i don't feel like doing the math to find out how much longer it actually is, so i'll just use that as a safe estimate. buuuuttttt, it did cause me to change my posting schedule from one chapter every saturday (wattpad)/friday (google docs)/thursday (ao3) to a chapter every day cuz i didn't want it to take almost a whole year to upload the story, so maybe it wasn't all a bad thing? idk, depends on how much you like my stories, ig 😭😭

also i had some challenges writing this book, and i kinda want to talk about them (this is me begging you to appreciate my work). so if you know asoue, whether through the books or the tv show (there is no movie what are you talking about), you know daniel handler's writing style. absolutely iconic. but, because he observes the baudelaires through a third person perspective, he's able to talk to the audience through a second story perspective. since i write my stories in a second story perspective, i knew it would be awkward to switch between millie's pov and lemony's pov without doing some really weird stuff that would take out some of the immersion. i tried to incorporate as many of the soliloquies in the best way i could, but a lot of them would be too awkward to include the full thing, so i either shaved them down or removed them entirely. so if you've read the books or seen the tv show and know what soliloquies i'm talking about, that's the explanation for their absence.

also this one is a lot closer to the source material than black star — whereas black star has whole chapters of my own writing and i didn't just snatch lines and actions from the a:aou movie, this book is pretty much word for word s1 of the asoue netflix show. to daniel handler: plz do not sue me ! i am not claiming any ownership whatsoever over asoue ! i only wanted to create an escape from reality and maybe share the magic of the series with people. to the person reading this: this is basically the dollar tree version of asoue, and if you haven't read the books or watched the tv show i highly highly HIGHLY recommend them they're amazing actual chef's kiss 20/10 and asoue is super underrated imo so you should go show it some love ^-^

this book was based on the first four books in the asoue series (for those of you that don't know the books, i put the actual names of them in the "part the ______" sections, and that's why you see "the bad beginning," "the reptile room," etc. below lemony's beatrice dedications — which were also taken from their respective books), and if you've watched it you know there's 3 seasons. i'm doing one season per book because i don't want to release 13 short books when i could do 3 average size of a real paperback book books. and why bother trying to find good dividing lines among the series when netflix has done it for me (original thoughts smh)????

oh and as mr. poe would say, "here's a fun bit of trivia." i wrote like halfway-ish through chapter thirty-four to the end over the course of four days while recovering from my wisdom teeth removal surgery (pain really gets the creative juices flowing yk). so that's cool i guess 👍

ok yeah i think that's pretty much it!!!!!! remember kids do not marry your second cousin three times removed or third cousin two times removed no matter how big their fortune is
