The guards immediately gets out of my way and I push open the doors. I would normally never sit and talk to them without Asher, but today feels different.
"I believe you found out that Prince Romeo has left." He doesn't bothering asking how my day is and he probably doesn't care. The queen is usually beside him, but today she is absent. I take note of that and try to choose my words carefully.
I sit down in the low chair and try to not look intimidated. "I was told it had something to do with me."
He remains kind in his words, but his voice and eyes seem cold. "If you must know my son left in order to do something to win your hand in marriage."
He makes it sound like it's dishonoring in a way. I feel kind of flattered, but it must be more. "You highness, I was left under the impression that he only wanted to marry me for business purposes."
"That's what I want. My boy on the other hand actually likes you," he said. "Now I'm not sure if you're worth the trouble."
My mouth drops open and I'm left feeling belittled. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me. Princess Myla my son is going in search of your mother," he said calmly.
I'm stunned and abashed. He would do that for or me? "Why didn't he tell me?"
"You would only be in the way and it's to dangerous for you," he said. He turns the red ruby on his finger.
"She's my mother," I say. Again I'm angry and it seems that's my reaction to everything these days. "If he was going he should have taken me too. I'm a vampire what could possibly kill me?"
The king let's out a loud sigh and sits back in his chair. "You're not stronger than every vampire. The older the vampire the stronger and faster they are. Your the reason your mother went into hiding in the first place."
Gee thanks for reminding me. "I know you already told me this."
"Myla there is things you don't know and neither do I. The days before my son left he did some digging and learnt more about who you are."
"What do you mean who I am." I don't take it offensively but it doesn't rub off right either.
"Hundreds of years before you were born and when I was a young vampire, there was a prophecy told. The prophecy told of a vampire being born who would be a danger to all of our existence. Her offsprings would be stronger than all vampires even the ancient ones and she would be the end of all the vampiric race."
I stare at him and let out a nervous laugh. "Simply because of some stupid prophecy you believe that I'm dangerous. Your daughter just about needed me in the hallway and you think I can overpower you."
I'm laughing hysterically at his words. He must not have taken it to well, because he stands up and says in a dangerously calm voice. "Ancient vampires are willing to kill to get their hand on you. The only reason you haven't been touched is because your royalty. They don't want to risk a war."
This shuts up my bliss and my mouth. "Get out."
I do what he says wordlessly and hurry out of the study. I see the guards rush to position their self. I smile at them and acknowledge that I know they we're eavesdropping.
I'm startled and shocked by what he said. I have the ability to start a war? What is so special about me. I have no special abilities except for the ones that any normal vampire would.
Why would Asher go to such lengths for me when I'm ungrateful? I would love to see my mother, but I wouldn't want him to get hurt in the process. I need to understand more about what is going on and I feel like only a few people could actually describe this to me.
Hours later I'm surrounded by suitcases. This has got to be more then enough. I shouldn't be gone that long?
"Really Alissa do we need all of this?" I ask giving a critical eye at the mountain of luggage.
She looks like herself again and I don't know what brought around her new change of air. "It's never more than enough. You never know what we may need."
"I think we overpacked what we need." I'm sure we're going to have double this stuff when we come back because of her shopping addiction.
"Nonsense, take it away and be careful with the gold boxes my jewelry is in there."
The servants seem unenthusiastic about putting this all in the car and I don't blame them. How it will all fit in there is still a mystery to me.
"Let's go I hate this place." Alissa slams my door shut and walks out with her head high. She doesn't acknowledge her father but gives her mother a long hug. I nod to them both and thank them before following behind Alissa.
About five minutes into the ride Alissa is already planning how we're going to spend our time there. I'm planning on how I'm going to avoid it.
"Alissa pleaee we're not going to have half the time to do everything on that list," I exclaimed. I can't hide the frustration in my voice and she picks up on it.
She folds places her phone back in her purse and purses her lips. "Yea we will, I have everything planned out."
"We're not going there for vacation. We are going there for important matters," I said. I'm not spending a thirteen hour drive listening to her talk.
"We will still have empty hours to spend and we mustn't be idle. Think of it as a girl trip," she said absentmindedly.
I squint at her and decide against checking her. "Fine let's make it a girls trip. Business first."
She smiles and pulls out her phone again and I say hastily, "I would love some peace and quiet."
