Arlecchino, also known by her spirit name "The Knave" is an Inverse Spirit hailing from a different reality of Date-A-Live. Her true name is Mio Takamiya, the Spirit of Origin. In her time, after the death of Shinji Takamiya, her despair and rage drove her into an Inverse state and caused a world-ending Spacequake that rivaled the likes of her initial birth, completely destroying the surface of the planet and eliminating mankind as a whole. Faced with the reality that Shinji couldn't be brought back even with reincarnation, she accepted that reality and came to terms with the concept of life and death. Due to her inversing, her personality completely changed but she still retains her love for Shinji and is combined with the Reine personality. She came to the reality of Date-A-Live: Molten Knight due to the Balladeer's tampering with dimensions using Beast's Tenth Sword and focused her efforts on eliminating DEM and stopping the Balladeer from completing his grand goal. She also wants to stop this world's version of herself from killing the spirits as she has already seen the future thanks to <Zaphfkiel> and plans to assist Ratatoskr in stopping her. The Knave is also aware of the growing anomaly manifesting in the Earth's atmosphere.

The Balladeer, Kunikuzushi, is one of the main antagonists of the story and a major threat to the world itself, His existence is considered a tainted one as he was born from the Spirit of Origin. His true identity is revealed to be Shido Itsuka from the different reality of Date-A-Live, just like Arlecchino. Unlike The Knave, The Balladeer's origins stem during the final war against DEM, where the Spirit of Origin, Mio Takamiya, manifested and slaughtered all of the spirits, except for Yoshino, who was killed earlier in his world by the AST's commander, Ryouko Kusakabe. Faced with grief, anger, sorrow, and despair, The Balladeer unleashed his inner spirit powers that were locked deep within his soul, and due to him being the son of Mio, he had access to her angels. He released a massive spacequake that rivaled Mio's and destroyed the planet's first layer, causing the extinction of mankind and killing everyone from the blast unintentionally. The blast also killed Mio and all of the Sephira Crystals were left behind. He could not bring back his girlfriends even with <Zaphfkiel> because he did not have enough power to restore the dead or fix his world. Faced with such a terrible reality, he lost his sanity and inversed, Shido Itsuka now became The Balladeer. The Balladeer spent 20 years in his destroyed world, planning how to restore his world and revive his loved ones, and then he came up with the brilliant plan of invading this world, using the help of another spirit's weapon. Using whatever power is left in the Sephira Crystals left behind by his girlfriends and Mio, he traveled through a wormhole and into Beast's dimension, where he battled the monstrous and chaotic spirit and swiped her Tenth Sword and slashed open a crack in time and space, allowing him to go through it and tossing back the sword. He entered the Date-A-Live: Molten Knight world through a Time Rift that appeared above Tengu City during the large fire, where he and The Knave breached that world and were sent to different locations.
