"Anak, saan ka nagpunta at basang-basa ka?"
"I went to a nearby coffee shop to buy a cup of coffee." I responded to my mother, who greeted me as I approached. She must have been waiting for quite some time since I disappeared without warning.
"Come here, patuyuin natin ang buhok mo. Neng, ikuha mo ako ng tuwalya at blower." Utos niya sa maid.
"Any update on the rape case?" She asked. My mother knows about all the cases I am handling, so sometimes she and I talk about them because my father is rarely around. She's a retired police officer, while my father's a soldier.
"Not yet, we're still working on it. We've collected evidence and eyewitness statements, but it's a complex case, and we want to make sure we have a strong case against the perpetrator. We're also working closely with forensics to analyze DNA evidence and review surveillance camera footage to get a clearer picture of the situation." Mahabang paliwanag ko bago sinimulan suklayin ang aking buhok.
"What about interviewing the victim? Have you had a chance to speak to her yet?" She followed.
"We have, but it's not easy. She's traumatized and it's hard for her to recall the events. We're taking our time and providing her with all the support possible. We know it's crucial to have her testimony, but we don't want to pressure her or cause additional trauma." If you have a rape victim client, hindi mo pwede pilitin itong magsalita dahil mas lalo itong nakakadagdag trauma para sa kanila. We have to be patient at maging maingat sa mga itatanong ukol sa kanyang kaso.
"It's important to take a careful approach when dealing with victims of such traumatic experiences. How is the victim doing now?"
"As expected, she's struggling to cope. We're making sure she has access to resources and counseling, and we're keeping her informed about the progress of the investigation. We want to make sure she feels supported throughout this difficult process." Sagot ko bago ulit ininom ang aking binili, hindi na masyado mainit at medyo natagalan ako sa labas.
"So, what's the next step? You can't let this case just go cold."
"I know, Mom. We're still waiting on DNA results and more forensic evidence. In the meantime, we'll be following up on any leads and continuing to gather information. But it's important not to rush the process and make sure we have a strong case for prosecution. It's a slow grind, but we'll keep working until we have something solid to work with." I am so sleepy, I don't know the reason pero inaantok ako sa tuwing umiinom ng kape.
"By the way, have you found the person you had incarcerated for theft? I mean, if I remember correctly, you said she wasn't the culprit, right?"
"Yes, but the evidence I had at that time pointed towards the accused being the thief."
