Even though Gon had told Midoriya he would tell him everything, he was certainly having second thoughts about it now. The two of them were making their way through the forest, following the path for the courage test, but there was nothing but utter silence, except for the sounds of leaves rustling here and there.
Midoriya was walking behind Gon, his fists still clenched as he waited for the other boy to begin speaking. A few minutes ticked by, and still, neither of them said a word. The longer the silence stretched, the more it gnawed at Midoriya's nerves.
Suddenly, Gon stopped moving as he sensed someone in the bushes ahead. Of course, it was someone from Class B who would undoubtedly try to scare them, but Gon didn't want that sort of distraction right now. Turning around, he grabbed Midoriya's arm, pulling him along as he strayed off the path they were supposed to take.
"Eh? Gon?" Midoriya's voice wavered with confusion and concern, but Gon didn't respond, his grip on Midoriya's arm firm. They needed to be away from prying eyes—this was too important.
A million excuses were running in and out of Gon's mind, but what benefit would a lie do for him right now? With new determination, Gon shook all the thoughts in his head away. There were no take backs. He had to tell Midoriya and get it over with. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Gon stopped in a small clearing, far from the others. He released Midoriya's arm and took a deep breath, steeling himself. He could see the worry in Midoriya's eyes, the way his body tensed as if bracing for a blow.
"Okay," Gon began, his voice steady but low, as if speaking any louder would shatter the fragile moment. "This is a bit of a secret, so I'd appreciate it if you don't tell anyone else about this. Anyway, I'll say it straight-up. It's up to you whether you want to believe me or not, but the truth is..." He hesitated for a split second, but then he met Midoriya's eyes. "...me and Killua are from another world."
Midoriya blinked, his mind reeling. For a moment, he just stared at Gon, the words not fully registering. "Huh?" The question hung in the air, disbelief and confusion warring in Midoriya's expression. He didn't know what he was expecting, but it was definitely not that.
Gon held his gaze, refusing to back down. "We were brought from another world because of one of the League's villains."
Midoriya took a step back, his thoughts racing. This had to be a joke, right? Another world? And yet, as he looked into Gon's eyes, he knew that this wasn't something to laugh about. Gon was dead serious. "...seriously?" He muttered, more to himself than to Gon. The idea was so outlandish that he didn't know how to respond.
Gon sighed, the tension in his body slowly unwinding now that the words were out. He had known this wouldn't be easy. "I get it, Deku. It sounds crazy, but it's the truth." Gon's voice was calm but firm as he began to explain everything: how Kurogiri's warp gate had malfunctioned and brought them here, how they were currently living with Aizawa, and how Killua's encounter with the League was all about finding a way home—though they'd since abandoned that plan.
As Gon spoke, Midoriya's mind slowly began to piece together the puzzle. The idea of another world was mind-boggling, but in a world where quirks existed, was it really so impossible? The more Gon talked, the more it made a twisted kind of sense. He tried to find any cracks in the story, but every detail, no matter how bizarre, seemed to fit together with an unsettling logic. And then there was the detail that sealed it for Midoriya: Aizawa. If Gon and Killua were truly living with him, it would be impossible for them to be secretly working with villains and not get caught. And even if Gon was lying about that, blatantly using their teacher for a made-up story would only be a risky move.
Midoriya's fists slowly unclenched, his heart rate calming as he accepted the strange reality Gon was presenting.
"Deku?" Gon noticed Midoriya's shift in demeanor, feeling a flicker of hope.
