Yunhyo made sure to put on some chapstick when she left her house to "go get some groceries" because she knew exactly what was about to happen. Dating Jake for months now, she could count on her fingers at least a few of the things he would pull on her unexpectedly.
She had ignored his calls and texts for two days and she just knew he was waiting for her to get out of her house so he could catch her somewhere.
She was slightly surprised when he wasn't right outside her block. She was hyperaware of her surroundings the entire time, looking out for any signs of her boyfriend's presence. When she aimlessly walked around the aisles in the supermarket, she was confused when she wasn't being followed by anyone. After buying a pack of gum, she headed back. When she turned the corner of her alley and he still wasn't there, she was disappointed.
Maybe she had high hopes. Maybe he wasn't going to come sway her off her feet like he does every time. With a heavy heart, she closed the gate to her house, standing on the porch she unlocked the door with her keys- no one was home.
"Fuck-" She yelped in surprise, feeling her body being pulled, a hand clasping over her mouth. After the moment of panic, the familiar scent evaded her senses. Her body relaxed into the bear hug that he had pulled her into.
"Jake..." her voice was muffled against the palm over her mouth. He leaned down, burying his face into her neck.
"I said I'm sorry. Let me make it up to you. Were you really going to continue to ignore me for days?"
"Why are you sneaking up on me like this?"
"What else was I supposed to do? Talk to me, please, babe." he nuzzled into her neck, making her feel ticklish.
"No! I hate you!" she tried her best to wiggle out of his grip, but her tone only made him hug her tighter.
"Don't you dare say that-" He turned her around by her shoulders, wanting to read her face. She leaned back on the door- which was already open- causing them both to stumble inside.
Taking that chance she ran up the stairs to her room, and he followed suit.
"You can't run now."
"You're in my house. You're trespassing!"
Jake flung the door to her room open, his worried eyes looking for her. He held her wrist, pulling her closer into a hug again, wanting nothing but to feel her warmth. "Take that back, don't say you hate me."
She almost laughed, realising how serious he was. She just wanted to play around with him.
"Well thanks to you, my two best friends aren't friends anymore. Who's gonna fix it now?" she said, trying to sound as angry as possible.
"I- I can try! I'll talk to them both. I told you it wasn't my intention. I'll apologise-" he spoke so agitatedly that Yunhyo couldn't help but burst out laughing. He pulled away from the hug, frowning, "Did you just laugh at me?"
"Thanks to you, Jake, those idiots are finally together." she smiled and he looked at her with wide eyes and confusion, making her explain further. "They've liked each other since they've known one another. They just needed that little push, and you did what I couldn't do for years." she put her arms around his neck sluggishly.
"Wait, really!?"
They stood there like that for a while as Yunhyo explained to him what had happened over the course of years and the past few days as well. "So you're not mad?" he asked, to which she replied, "How could I ever be, hm?"
The corners of his lips turned up into a smile, his eyes lighting up, "Good god, I thought I had fucked up big time!"
She still stood in his embrace, he smirked as he took the opportunity and slowly stepped forward, making her walk back, "Don't you think you should make up for this? For worrying me so much?"
She stumbled back, confused, both of them slowly reaching her bed. "Jake, what are you doing?" she asked, skeptical.
"Your parents aren't home..." he whispered.
"Jake...?"
"We've been together for so long... and we still haven't-" he made her sit on the bed, towering over her, his mischievous eyes looking into her confused ones, "cuddled properly." he finished his sentence, a sheepish smile on his face.
She stared at him in disbelief for a while. "You know you scared me there," she complained, pushing him by his chest. He groaned, faking the pain before leaning forward, engulfing her into a hug and eventually getting the cuddles he wanted.
When he gazed down at her face which laid on his chest, he could clearly see her pink tinted cheeks, making him smile to himself. "I still can't believe they got together because of me."
"Not really-"
"I must have really good luck. Even the three kids got together. And most importantly, I got to be with you."
"Well technically speaking, most of this was me." She said, cutting him off, "and we wouldn't have been together- heck, I wouldn't have known your existence if I hadn't texted the wrong number."
"So you're saying the credit goes to Park Sunghoon? Because he gave you the wrong number? Not because of my tireless efforts?" Jake asked in disbelief, and just a little bit of hurt.
"It's the truth, isn't it. Also, if it wasn't for me to tolerate your countless efforts of befriending me."
"It worked though. I got a friend, and so much more." he said, genuinely happy.
"You were kind of creepy back then, you know that?"
"Hey! stop that!" the thought of the past Jake was pretty painful for the current Jake. "I wasn't 'creepy' and you liked everything I did. Don't deny that. It's the reason why we are here right now, like this."
She giggled at his response, looking up at his eyes, a genuine thankful smile grazing her lips. "Well thank you, for everything you did. Even the stupid date crashing."
"The date with Park Sunghoon? Oh, can we stop talking about him? Am I dating you or him? You mention him too much." he huffed in annoyance, causing her to giggle more.
"All I want to say is, I'm happy, Jake. I'm happy with you. I'm happy it's you, and not anyone else."
Jake's cheeks heat up, his chest swelling with pride. He pressed a sweet, loving kiss to Yunhyo's lips, expressing his gratitude.
A kiss that spoke all the words his heart wished to say.
The end.
