Prom Night.
Well, here it was! At least, not for Robin. Well- It certainly wasn't going how it always used to play out in Robin's head, that's for sure! Earlier, naturally, In classic Steve fashion, and at the very last minute, he ended up having plans at a random girls house. (for once.) So, instead of going to the prom like normal girls Robin's age, she's chaperoning the event in place of Steve. Why not, at least she doesn't have to dance, right?
"Thanks for the ride, you man whore." Robin teases, grabbing a small handbag with some of her small things in it. Steve rolls his eyes. "It's a date, not a hookup. I'm trying to change."
Robin nods, a familiar and teasing smirk growing on her rosy lips. "Right! Trying."
Silence.
"And-! Failing! See ya!" She spits out in a cackle, exiting the car as soon as she can before hearing Steve's complaints back to her.
Robin skedaddles her way to the door in her jeans, beat up converse, and white tank top. Her eye liner is done darkly and her hair is in a light, natural wave.
The prom was being held at the local community building, and country club. It was a relatively nice place, so, Robin had to wear at least something presentable. She slid the door open with ease and made her way into the building, checking in on Steve's behalf.
Then, she helped with the last few parts of set up before the doors opened to the students. It took a while before Nancy finally arrived.
She had walked into the prom almost floating in the air. Her hair glistened, her makeup was subtle, beautiful. Her dress was absolutely immaculate. If an angel had walked into the building that night, it was THE Nancy Wheeler.
It was then that Robin had stepped away from her tasks at hand, and instead walked up to Nancy, who had paused for a moment and looked at Robin up and down in what seemed to Robin, almost pure shock. "Robin.." She finally choked out. "What are you-"
"Covering Steve's sorry ass- And you-" Robin looks around Nancy for a moment, confused. "You are alone... W-Where's your other half?"
Nancy freezes, eyes widening. "Don't call him that- I- I mean- He uh.. We..." She sighs. "We broke up, this morning."
Robin's blue eyes widen in shock, her heart pounds. "Oh my gosh- I- I'm so so sorry, Nancy- What happened..?" She asks, fighting her nerves and walking closer to Nancy, subconsciously wrapping her hands around her waist and hugging her tightly. And although the action had been innocent, it felt almost purely intimate. To BOTH of them.
Nancy melts into Robin's touch, as she has found herself doing for the girl for the last few months. "I- I told him I liked someone else. Because he told me he just... didn't like the idea of going to prom... So I finally just- wanted him gone, you know?" Nancy asks, pulling away for a moment and locking eyes with Robin.
Robin, on the other hand, had a heart dropped straight to the floor. "Yeah, that makes sense.. How do you feel?" She asked bittersweetly.
"Well, I cried. Then I felt awkward, knowing I'd be here alone. And then... Now, I feel relieved. Relieved that now I do have a date after all." Nancy smiles, tilting her head. The two girls were so caught in talking, they had completely looked over the fact that Nancy's arms had been wrapped around Robin's neck, and Robin's sat on Nancy's waist. Robin's eyes widen, and her beautiful freckled face flushes. "Oh! I- Uh- me??"
Nancy smiles. "I wouldn't want anybody else to be holding my waist in this building. Partially because you're the only one I know but-" She pauses. Robin swallows hard, and feels herself move closer. "The last few months, almost, honestly, I think I've grown fond of you? And.. After talking to Mike, I- I think I-"
"Nance." Robin interrupts. "You just got out of a relationship, I- I- I really REALLY like you too. Like, Like really. But- Let's maybe- if you want to do this- which- by the way, I REALLY hope you do because you're so beautiful and funny and stubborn and-" Robin takes a breath. "Just perfect and- let's just.. Take this.. Slow." Robin says as her hand flows upward from Nancy's waist, straight to her soft, delicate face.
Nancy smiles. "Okay, Buckley. That sounds like a plan to me... You look.. Amazing. By the way."
Robin scoffs. "Right, I'm sure..."
The two stare at each other for a moment.
"Cmon," Robin starts. "You can hang out with me, and watch everyone like a creep."
Nancy smiles as Robin takes her hand and drags her back over to the corner of the room. God, was Robin's palm sweaty.
Nancy laughs. "Robin, you have got to be the most interesting girl I've ever met."
Robin smiles in return. "Nancy Wheeler, the you have got to be the most beautiful girl I've ever met."
