Nobara swirled the drink in her hand, "I just can't believe it! It doesn't seem real. Like there's no way he hasn't gotten some sort of surgery."
You crinkled your brow, "You're telling me that you think he had a surgery done on his abs? And that's why they look like that?"
The ginger snorted, "Okay. I hear it now. But it just doesn't seem right! They look like the abs of a monster freak - you get what I mean?"
You picked up the magazine off the table and looked at the bodybuilder once again.
"I mean . . . I get where you're coming from. They do look fake."
"Exactly!" She scoffed, "But you're right. Surgery doesn't sound right. Photoshop makes more sense."
You flipped through the magazine, scrutinizing the glossy pages and the chiseled physique on display. "Photoshop, definitely. The lighting, the shadows—it's all too perfect. Even the way his muscles are defined looks like it was drawn by a graphic artist."
Nobara took a sip from her glass and leaned in, lowering her voice as if the magazine itself might overhear. "I mean, I wouldn't put it past them to exaggerate a little. It's all about selling the image, right? But it's crazy how people buy into it. They think it's real and then, bam! Expectations are set way too high."
You laughed, "And then people like us come along and say they look like steroid freaks. All that money wasted on nothing."
Nobara chuckled, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, exactly! It's like, all that effort and money just to get us talking about how fake they look. It's such a mind game."
"Would you rather kiss him or kiss a frog?"
Nobara looked at you, a playful smirk forming on her lips. "Oh, definitely kiss a frog. At least then I'd be getting a real reaction, not a photo-shopped one."
You laughed, raising an eyebrow. "Fair point. Plus, frogs might have a better chance of turning into a prince than a photoshopped bodybuilder has of being real."
Nobara grinned, "Exactly! And at least with a frog, you know what you're getting - no surprises."
You both shared a laugh, the earlier discussion giving way to a lighter mood. The magazine lay forgotten on the table as you enjoyed the ease of the conversation.
"Okay fine. I'd have to go with that answer too. Kissing frogs seems like it would be better." You sipped on your own iced tea. "This is really good."
Nobara raised her glass, mimicking a toast. "To frogs and iced tea, then. Way more satisfying than those over-the-top magazine abs."
You clinked your glasses together, chuckling. "Cheers to that. And to keeping things real, even if it means dealing with some slimy amphibians."
Nobara laughed, taking a sip of her drink. "You know, sometimes I think it'd be nice if we could just simplify things a bit. Like, imagine if everyone just showed their true selves, no filters, no pretense."
"Dating would be a lot easier then!"
She nearly choked on her drink, "Sorry? You're in the dating scene? When did this start?"
You rolled your eyes, "It hasn't. I can't seem to find anyone who's interested!"
Nobara's eyes widened with surprise. "Seriously? You seriously think there's nobody?"
You shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Guess I've been flying under the radar. Or maybe I just haven't met the right person yet. I mean, what do you do?"
