"Mei Mei. Hi." Gojo stepped out of his car and smiled at the woman.
Mei Mei smiled back. "Satoru. Nice to see you again. How was your ski trip with the kids?"
Gojo just managed to bite back a grimace. He hated the way she said his name. He only liked it when you said it. Because it had a nice, airy tone to it. Sweet. Lovely.
All the things you were.
And to think, this was the woman you thought he was dating.
"Good. The ski trip was good."
Mei Mei raised an eyebrow, her usual smirk tugging at her lips. "Just good?" she teased, clearly sensing his discomfort. "Come on, Satoru. I thought a man like you would have had more... extravagant adventures to share."
Gojo chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "You know me. I live for the simple things in life." His mind instantly wandered back to you—your smile, your laugh, the way you made even the most mundane moments feel special. He had no interest in playing along with Mei Mei's games today.
Her eyes flickered with amusement, clearly catching the subtle shift in his tone. "Simple? That doesn't sound like the Gojo Satoru I know." She tilted her head, watching him closely, as if trying to peel back the layers of whatever he was hiding.
Gojo straightened, his smile returning but not quite reaching his eyes. "Maybe you don't know me as well as you think." He stepped forward, subtly shifting the conversation away from himself. "Anyway, what's going on? You didn't call me here just to chat about my vacation, did you?"
Mei Mei's smirk grew as she pushed off from where she was leaning, her gaze never leaving his. "Business as usual. But I'll get to that. First, I wanted to congratulate you on your... new arrangement."
Gojo's jaw clenched slightly, though his face remained impassive. He knew exactly what she was referring to, and he didn't like the insinuation in her voice. "New arrangement?" he echoed, keeping his tone light, though a hint of irritation flickered beneath it.
Mei Mei's eyes gleamed with amusement. "Oh, you know. Word travels fast in our circles. Especially when it involves a certain someone you've been spending an awful lot of time with." Her smile widened, enjoying the way Gojo's mood darkened. "Rumor has it, you've been quite... smitten."
Gojo's mind instantly filled with thoughts of you. It wasn't a rumor—it was the truth. He was smitten. More than that, actually. But he didn't appreciate the way Mei Mei was trying to toy with that truth, like it was something to gossip about.
"You shouldn't believe everything you hear, Mei Mei," he said, his voice a bit sharper now.
She let out a soft laugh, clearly enjoying herself. "Oh, I don't need to rely on rumors. I've seen the way you look at her, Satoru. It's... cute, really." She stepped closer, her eyes locking onto his. "But don't worry, your secret's safe with me. For now."
Gojo narrowed his eyes slightly, his patience wearing thin. "There's no secret."
Mei Mei tilted her head, feigning innocence. "Of course not. Though I wonder... does she know about this little meeting of ours? Or would that complicate things?"
Gojo's smile returned, this time a bit colder. "She knows everything she needs to know. And as far as this meeting goes, let's just keep it professional, alright?" His voice was calm, but the warning in his words was unmistakable.
Mei Mei's amusement didn't falter, but she raised her hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. No need to get so defensive, Satoru. I'm just teasing." She stepped back, her gaze still fixed on him. "But really - it's quite interesting. What do you think the sweet thing would say if she knew you were here? Hm?"
