28 - Hallway kisses with Sukuna

"Wait a second."

You halted in your steps, waiting for Yuji to catch up. You couldn't muster the strength to look up at him.

"How did you get here so fast?"

You were just down the hall from your room. Apparently Yuji sought you out quicker than you expected him to. Margaret must have told them all by now.

"Can you look at me please?"

"I'd rather not 'cause I'm probably going to pass out from embarrassment."

Yuji's footsteps slowed, and you could feel his gaze even without looking at him. His voice was softer this time, a gentle nudge rather than an insistence. "Hey, it's okay. I get it."

You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself. You glanced sideways to find Yuji's concerned expression, and despite the embarrassment bubbling up inside you, you forced yourself to meet his eyes.

He gave you a reassuring smile, though it didn't quite mask the nervousness in his own gaze. "Look, I know it's a lot to take in. But, um, if you need to talk or, you know, just figure things out, I'm here for you."

Your mouth felt dry, and you struggled to find the right words. "I... I don't even know where to start. I thought everyone was with someone else. I mean, I was so sure. And now, finding out that you all actually liked me—"

Yuji's expression softened, and he took a small step closer. "Yeah, that's the part we were hoping you'd figure out sooner rather than later. It was kind of our fault for not being clearer."

"No no. You guys were pretty clear. I missed the signs."

Yuji tilted his head, a hint of confusion mingling with his concern. "Missed the signs? What do you mean?"

You ran a hand through your hair, feeling a wave of frustration mixed with embarrassment. "I thought everyone was giving me signs about their own relationships or their interest in others. I saw what I wanted to see because I didn't want to intrude on anyone's personal life. I kept thinking that I was the outsider and that I was just being cautious."

Yuji's eyes widened. "So that's why you thought we were all taken! You were trying to avoid stepping on anyone's toes?"

You nodded, feeling a bit sheepish. "Yeah. I didn't want to 'cause any trouble or make things awkward if I misread the situation. I thought I was just being overly sensitive."

He snorted. "You're such a cutie."

You could feel heat rising in your cheeks and you nudged Yuji. "Hey - be nice to me."

Yuji chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to embarrass you further. I just think it's kind of endearing how you were trying to be considerate of everyone."

"Seriously though Yuji - how have you never had a girlfriend."

He grinned and leaned an elbow on your head. "Because I was too busy staring at your pretty face."

You felt your face go hotter, and you pushed Yuji's elbow away playfully. "Oh come on, stop with the cheesy lines."

Yuji laughed, the sound light and easy, and he took a step back, giving you some space. "I'm serious though. I've been pretty focused on you for a while now. It's kind of hard to notice other people when you're, well, you. I mean - Sukuna agrees wholeheartedly."

You blinked at Yuji, momentarily thrown off by the sudden mention of Sukuna. "Sukuna? You mean the curse? Is he really that invested in this whole situation?"
