The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains of their hotel room as Alexis stepped into the shower, letting the warm water cascade over her, washing away the remnants of sleep. The Miami Grand Prix loomed ahead, and with it, the intensity of the practice sessions.

As Alexis lathered her hair with shampoo, her phone rang from her bedside table. Lando, still getting dressed, glanced at the screen curiously - it was her ex, Tom. A twinge of unease gnawed at him, but he decided to answer, partly out of curiosity and partly to handle the situation head-on.

"Hello?" Lando's voice was steady, though his heart raced with a mix of apprehension and protectiveness.

There was a brief pause on the other end, then a surprised, "Uh, hello? Who's this?"

"That doesn't matter. Alexis is in the shower right now. Can I ask why you're calling?" He replied evenly, his grip tightening on the phone.

Tom hesitated, clearly caught off guard. "Oh, uh, I... I just wanted to... talk to her..." He stammered, his tone uncertain.

Lando's jaw clenched slightly. "Right," He said tersely, trying to keep his cool. "Well, like I said, she's a bit busy at the moment."

Tom muttered a quick apology and hung up abruptly, leaving Lando staring at the phone in his hand, his thoughts racing.

When Alexis emerged from the shower, wrapped in a towel with her hair dripping wet, she found Lando pacing the room, his expression a mix of concern and frustration.

"What's wrong?" She asked, her brow furrowing as she reached for her hairbrush.

Lando turned towards her, his voice tinged with tension. "That was Tom." He stated flatly, his eyes searching hers for answers.

Alexis froze, her heart sinking as she realized what must have transpired. "What did he want?" She asked cautiously, her mind racing to explain the unexpected call.

Lando hesitated, his gaze unwavering. "He said he wanted to talk to you," He replied, his tone guarded. "Why would he be calling you now?"

Alexis sighed softly, setting down the hairbrush as she met Lando's gaze. "I honestly don't know," She admitted truthfully, her voice tinged with frustration. "We haven't spoken since... since I ran into him in Melbourne."

Lando's jaw clenched again, his thoughts swirling with conflicting emotions. "It just seems... odd." He murmured, his voice tight with apprehension.

Alexis stepped closer, reaching out to gently touch his arm. "Hey," She said softly, her eyes searching his for understanding. "You know you have nothing to worry about, right? Tom's in the past."

Lando exhaled slowly, his shoulders relaxing slightly under her touch. "I know," He replied earnestly, his gaze softening as he looked at her. "I trust you, baby. It's just... seeing him call out of nowhere..."

Alexis nodded, her heart swelling for the man who cared so deeply for her. "I get it," She murmured, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "But you know, jealousy looks really good on you."

Lando chuckled despite himself, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Is that so?" He teased back, his tension easing as he pulled her into a comforting embrace.

"Absolutely," Alexis replied with a playful grin, her arms winding around his neck. "But seriously, you have nothing to worry about. It's just us, Lando."

They stood there for a moment, wrapped in each other's arms, finding solace in the reassurance of one another. As they headed out for the practice sessions, their bond strengthened by honesty and understanding, they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, united in their unwavering trust and affection.
