At the airport, Alexis and Lando stood with Daniel and Heidi. The anticipation of the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix hung in the air as they prepared to board their private jet. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and camaraderie, a welcome distraction from the nerves Alexis had been feeling about the race.
"Guys, you won't believe it," Daniel said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I've got some news to share with you before we head off."
Heidi gave Alexis a knowing glance, and Alexis felt a flutter of curiosity. She had gotten quite close with Heidi over the past months, and the look Heidi had just given her gave Alexis a sneaky suspicion on what Daniel was about to say.
Daniel took a deep breath, savouring the moment of suspense. "I've been promoted to the Alpha Tauri team," he announced. "Nyck de Vries is being dropped, and I'm finally back to racing."
The reaction was immediate and jubilant. Lando's face lit up with genuine happiness, and Alexis' eyes widened with delight. "That's incredible, man!" Lando exclaimed, giving his friend a hearty handshake.
Alexis stepped forward and hugged Daniel tightly. "I'm thrilled for you! You deserve this, Danny."
Daniel beamed, clearly enjoying the support. "Thanks, guys. Bit shit for Nyck, but it is what it is, hey. It's been a long road, but I'm ready to get back to racing."
As they boarded the private jet, the group settled into their seats and began to chat animatedly. Heidi and Alexis quickly fell into a comfortable conversation, discussing their plans for sightseeing in Budapest. Heidi had a knack for discovering hidden gems in cities, and Alexis was eager to explore with her.
"We should definitely check out the thermal baths, and maybe we could visit the Buda Castle too. The views from there are breathtaking," Heidi suggested. "And there's a great little café by the river, too."
"That sounds perfect." Alexis agreed.
Daniel, catching the excitement, added, "I don't wanna miss out on the local food scene, either. I've heard the goulash here is unbeatable."
Lando laughed, shaking his head. "Oh, so we'll be having a culinary adventure then? Just promise me you won't make me try any weird delicacies."
"Deal!" Daniel said with a wink. "But you're missing out if you don't try at least one local specialty. It's all part of the experience."
As the conversation flowed, Lando turned to Daniel with a mock-serious expression. "Hey, speaking of experiences, remember that time we tried to race each other through the hotel lobby in Budapest? I'm still not sure who won that one."
Daniel burst into laughter. "Oh, I remember that! You might have gotten a head start, but I think I had the better strategy. Let's just say it was a draw."
Alexis and Heidi exchanged amused glances, enjoying the playful back-and-forth between the two friends. Alexis turned to Heidi and said, "It's amazing how much they can entertain each other. They're like big kids sometimes."
Heidi nodded, laughing. "Totally. It's one of the things I love about Danny. He's always up for fun, even if it means acting like a kid."
Lando, overhearing the comment, feigned a hurt look. "Hey now, I take offense to that. I'm just young at heart. And besides, who doesn't love a bit of friendly competition?"
Lando and Daniel were engrossed in their own conversation, filled with playful banter and jokes. They reminisced about their past racing experiences and shared stories of their various escapades, their laughter echoing through the cabin.
Lando lounged comfortably in his seat, his playful grin evident as he turned to Daniel. "So, mate, what's the first thing you're going to do when you get back into the car? Go for a podium or try and break a record?"
