A couple days later, Alexis settled into the plush couch in Lando's living room. The book in her hands was an old favourite, but today it served as a comforting distraction from the quieter, but not less intense, atmosphere of Lando's house while he was out at the MTC. She was alone, with only the soft hum of the air conditioner breaking the silence.
The peace was interrupted by a sudden buzz from her phone. She glanced at the screen and saw Alex's name. She accepted the call with a swipe and held the phone to her ear.
"Hey, Alex." She greeted warmly.
"Hey, Lex. Just checking in on Lando," Alex's voice came through, tinged with concern. "How's he holding up?"
Alexis sighed softly, adjusting her position on the couch. "It's been a bit rough for him since we got home from Canada. You saw how hard he was on himself. He's throwing himself into preparing for Austria - training hard, studying data. It's like he's trying to make up for what he feels he's lost."
"I figured as much," Alex replied. "I've never seen him so flat after a race before. It's good to hear he's at least moving forward, though."
"Yeah, he's determined to do better," Alexis said, her voice full of reassurance. "He's really focussed on making sure he's ready. But I promise I'll keep you updated on how he's doing."
"Thank you," Alex said, his tone softening. "I'm glad he has someone like you to be there for him. I know it means a lot."
A smile tugged at Alexis' lips. "I'm glad to be here for him too."
"Well, if you need anything, don't hesitate to call." Alex offered.
"I will. Thanks Alex," she assured him. "Talk to you soon."
As they said their goodbyes and ended the call, Alexis placed her phone down beside her and returned to her book. The words on the pages seemed to blur as she thought about Lando, imagining him immersed in his preparations. She was determined to support him through this challenging time, knowing how much the sport meant to him and how difficult it was to face setbacks. She just hoped he was going to come out the other side okay.

The aroma of garlic and fresh herbs filled the kitchen as Alexis busily prepared dinner. She was chopping vegetables and stirring a pot on the stove, immersed in her own world with her headphones securely in place, playing her favourite playlist. It was a rare opportunity to cook a meal for Lando, Max, and herself - a simple pleasure that brought her comfort.
The front door clicked open, and Lando stepped inside, his face brightening with a tired but relieved smile as he kicked off his shoes. He glanced around the house, noticing the delicious scents wafting from the kitchen. He called out, "Hey, Al!" but his voice was swallowed by the hum of her music. He tried again, louder this time. "Alexis!"
When he didn't get a response, Lando raised an eyebrow and walked over to the kitchen. He saw her engrossed in her cooking and decided to have a little fun. Silently, he approached from behind, wrapping his arms around her waist in a warm embrace.
Alexis jumped, letting out a small shriek as she spun around to see Lando grinning behind her. "Fucking hell, you scared me!" She exclaimed, her heart racing as she pulled out her headphones.
Lando chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I was trying to talk to you, but I guess you were lost in your music."
She laughed, her tension melting away. "I was too focussed on cooking to hear anything. How was your day, though?"
Lando leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. "My day was pretty intense - meetings, simulations, and discussions about strategies. But seeing you and smelling this dinner makes it all worthwhile."
