Kara woke up with her alarm blaring in her ears. "Ugh..." Kara groaned as she got out of bed. She did a quick but efficient workout consisting of a two mile run taking her time to pause to look up at where Lena lived. On her way back she paused again to look up and this time Lena was standing on the balcony sipping her coffee. Kara wanted to yell up to her but was afraid that she'd startle her and she'd drop her coffee mug. So she continued running.
Lena looked out her balcony at the city she used to never use her balcony but that was before a certain blonde told her she loves to go on daily morning runs. Since learning that information Lena's been standing out her drinking her coffee every day in hopes of seeing Kara run by her place. So far she's either been too early to see her or just too late. However today when she stepped outside she saw Kara below her balcony stretching for a long moment before she took off again. 'Kara Danvers...you are a goddess.' Lena thought to herself as Kara looked up to see Lena standing there. Lena looked down in time to see the blonde run off again before she returned to her bedroom to continue with getting ready for her day.
Fresh out of the shower Kara slipped on her favorite cargo pants a tanktop, and a flannel shirt before slipping on her boots and walked out to her kitchen to finish her protein shake. With the shake finished Kara grabbed her backpack making sure she has everything she'll need in it, before she slips on her leather jacket and grabs her helmet. A few minutes later shes on her bike and heading to the coffee shop to get her usual.
Lena's car parked behind Kara's bike and she stepped out and walked into the building. Kara was sitting at a table with her jacket hung on the chair she sat in. Lena's automatically darted to the woman behind the counter eying the blonde with hungry eyes. Smiling to herself she walked up to the counter and ordered her coffee and a strawberry danish before walking over to where Kara sat. Kara was lost in thought Lena could see that. Clearing her throat was enough for Kara to look up at her. "Good morning Lee! I didn't see you there." Kara said. "I saw you were lost in thought. Penny for your thoughts?" Lena asked as she sat down beside her. "Uh...just thinking about something...nothing really interesting to be honest. What about you? How are you doing this morning Lee?" Kara asked. "I'm ok. Oh...look I'm eating a sweet this morning!" Lena replied as she held up the danish.
"Ok! Uh who are you? And where's my best friend? Cause my best friend doesn't eat sweets this early!" Kara exclaimed excitedly. "Well I sort of woke up later than usual today and didn't have time to make breakfast. But my best friend always gets her breakfast here so I thought I'd try something too." Lena replied. Kara smiled at her and Lena couldn't help but blush under her gaze. "So do you have any big interviews today?" Lena asked. "No actually I don't. I don't know what I'll be doing this morning actually." Kara replied. "Oh..are we still on for lunch?" Lena asked. "Of course! What would you like?" Kara asked.
"Hmmm how about sandwiches or something. We had pizza and Indian food yesterday." Lena replied. "That's cool with me. I should get going..." Kara said. "Me too! Here I'll walk out with you." Lena replied. Just as they were throwing their trash away the woman from behind the counter walked over to Kara and passed her a slip of paper and winked at her. "Uh...thank..." Kara grumbled as they walked out. "What's that she gave you?" Lena asked. Kara unfolded it to see the woman's number on it with her name. Kara showed Lena before she tossed the paper away in the outside trash can. "What?" Kara asked as she looked at Lena. "You aren't gonna use it?" Lena asked. "No. Why would I?" Kara asked as she slipped on her jacket and backpack. "Kara! She was checking you out all the time we sat there! She was drooling over you." Lena replied. "She was? Huh...I didn't notice. Like I said...I have someone else who occupies my thoughts now." Kara said.
"Well that doesn't mean you can't go out on a date...does it?" Lena asked. "Probably not to most women..but I'd rather wait to go out with the woman who hasn't left my mind..then go on a date with someone who will only ghost me." Kara replied. "Who is this mystery woman?" Lena asked. "I'll tell you when I get courage enough to ask her out on a date." Kara replied. "Ok then...I will wait for you to do that. But we should go before we're both late." Lena replied. Kara slipped her helmet on before speaking. "I'll see you later Lee!" Kara said. "Yes! I'll see you later around noon." Lena replied. "I can't wait!" Kara said as she mounted her bike, kickstarting it before she peeled off into traffic once again leaving Lena breathless.
Lena arrived to her office with a smile plastered on her face. "Whats got you so smiley today Lena?" Sam asked. "Just had an amazing couple of days." Lena replied as she sat at her desk. "Oh? Do tell? Where did you go last night?" Sam asks. "Well I went to hang out with Kara actually. She answered the door in a sports bra and sweatpants. God Sam! I wanted to jump her bones right then and there! But I didn't! I kept my cool and just joined her on the sofa. We ate Indian food and talked about our weekend plans, then she walked me to the car...and later I'm going to her office to have lunch with her." Lena replied. "Sounds like you two are growing close. When are you gonna ask her out?" Sam asked. "I don't know....she says she has someone she likes and apparently said woman occupies her mind." Lena replied sounding glum. "I bet you anything its you who occupies her mind." Sam replied. "Oh...go to work why don't you!" Lena groaned. "Ok! I'm going! I'll see you later." Sam added as she left the office.
Meanwhile Kara was being called to Cat's office as soon as she got off the elevator. "Yes Miss Grant?" Kara asked. "Ah Kara, thank you for coming! This is Nia Nal! She's the newest cub reporter here. I want you to take her under your wing and show her the ropes and help her write her first few articles." Cat explained. Kara nodded along. "Ok Nia...go on with Kara here and she'll show you to her office where you can get started on writing a puff piece on the animal shelter." Cat added.
Kara turned to look at young woman and smiled at her. "Come on Nia, let's get you started on your article." Kara said as she walked back to her office. "You can sit there...since I don't have an extra desk or anything..." Kara explained. Nia sat on the sofa and pulled out her stuff. Unsure of what to do the cub reporter just sat there. "Do you need something Nia?" Kara asked. "Uh..what do you want me to do?" Nia asked. "Research your topic and write a draft of it and I'll look over it." Kara said. "Ok..." Nia replied. Kara nodded and returned to her own work.
A little before noon Kara asked Nia what she wanted for a sandwich before ordering three of them. A few minutes later there was knock on Kara's door. She opened it up to see Lena standing there. "Hey Lee! Come on in." Kara greeted. "Oh...you have company?" Lena asked. "Lee this is Nia Nal, she's the newest reporter here and I'm showing her the ropes so to speak. She'll be in my office for a while." Kara explained. "It's nice to meet you Nia." Lena replied with a smile. "You too..." Nia replied. "Lena... Luthor. But you can call me Lena." Lena replied.
Kara sat next to Lena on the sofa along with Nia. "So what does Kara have you working on?" Lena asked. "Uh...Miss Grant has me writing a puff piece on the animal shelter. Kara's gonna review my draft before I send it to Snapper." Nia replied. "Oh, that's nice." Lena replied not knowing what to say. "So Lee? How's your morning going so far?" Kara asked. "It went really well. I had one meeting but after that I was able to spend time in my lab working on stuff." Lena replied. "Oh? What are you working on?" Kara asked. "On or off record Kar?" Lena asked. "Off...of course." Kara replied.
Lena told Kara about her experiments she had been working on while Nia worked on her research. "That'll be the sandwiches. I hope I got your order correct." Kara said as she handed Lena her sandwich. "I'm sure whatever you ordered me Kara it'll be wonderful." Lena replied. The three of them ate their sandwiches all while Kara and Lena made small talk about different things. "Is girls night still happening tomorrow night?" Lena asked. "Of course! Nia you can come too if you want." Kara added trying to be nice to the cub reporter. "Uh..no thanks...maybe some other time." Nia replied. "Ok." Kara replied.
After lunch Kara walked Lena out to the awaiting car and hugged her before going back inside. "See you later!" Kara called as Lena got into the backseat. "See you Kara!" Lena replied with a smile.
