I woke up to a grumpy Dawn, the light shined bright on the sky and my eyes stung from the sun. My back felt stiff from the uncomfortable bedding, but if sleeping on a roof meant I was with Dawn, then I would do it a hundred times
over.
I squeezed Dawn closer to me, and stretched my back. She looked at me with groggy honey colored eyes and gave out a big yawn. I gave her a small kiss on her head and rose up, I reached out my hand and helped her up. When we got down her parents were already at work, so we made some quick breakfast and took a warm shower.
The weather was hot today so we were heading to the beach, we packed some soda, sunscreen, water and fruit.
The drive didn't take long and when we got there it was a little crowded. But we managed to get a spot close to the ocean, so we set up our belongings and applied some sunscreen. Dawn had been here for a month but her skin was still pale, so I made sure to cover every part of her in sunscreen. We drank a soda and sunbathed for an hour before burning up in the sun, we rushed to the water and practically threw ourselves in the cool water. It felt nice to get in after being cooked like an egg on a frying pan, Dawn wasn't a great swimmer so we made sure to stick where she could reach the bottom.
Then some surfer almost crashed right into
Dawn, and both of us had a heart attack! The surfer came back to apologize for the near miss, which made me and Dawn feel a little at ease. At least he wasn't a complete asshole. After the near accident we headed back up and ate some fruit,
I told Dawn about what university's I had applied to and when I told her I had applied here to a bunch of schools she started to tear up a little.

"Even though I want you with me, you can't throw away your future for me" she said and pushed her knees to her chin. I reached over and held her back, "I'm not, and you are not a waste of my future. You are my future, Dawn." I said as she looked at me.
She kissed me and gave me a shy smile. After burning my ass off in the sun all day we headed back home, we were going out for dinner in the city. Dawn was wearing a flower dress that ended at her knees with her hair up in a ponytail, and I wore shorts and a T-shirt.

She looked like a princess, and I felt like her prince in shining armor. We ate sushi and I had actually started to like it, well not the raw fish but the avocado and cucumber. After dinner we took a walk back home, the night air was chilly and
fresh. I know they call New York the city of lights but I think they might be wrong, for the lights in this city shined bright from every corner. You could hear street musicians play and children laughing. Even though I had missed Dawn like crazy, I wanted her to be happy. And I thought she would be excited to hear that I had applied for university here so we could be close, but she thinking that I'm throwing away everything to be with her? A complete lie, I don't even know what I want to study and Chicago has great programs, so it stung a little when she thought that I was giving it all up for her. Sure I would gladly do so, but what's so bad about me moving here? Closer to her?
I could tell Dawn didn't like it here, but I really hoped that she would get some friends when school starts again, she's been here almost a month and we'd seen the same amount of the city. I know I shouldn't worry, but I do.
I'm afraid that she will be all alone when I'm back in Seattle and it breaks my heart.
