"Are you ready cass ?"
"Just two more minutes" my sister called out from her room, I put my earrings in and grabbed my bag going downstairs into the kitchen
"Cassie"
"I'm coming" she came downstairs typing something on her phone "you're always rushing me"
"Cole's mom is gonna be here any minute and you still have to pack the cake up"
"Oh shoot I forgot about the cake" I shook my head as she grabbed a box and started putting the pieces of the cake we baked yesterday into it "You'll never believe what Emma just texted me" I filled both our bottles with some water looking at her
"What"
"Apparently Amelie got caught sneaking out yesterday so she's grounded now and not coming to the sleepover"
"Sneaking out ? Isn't she like 12 ?" She nodded closing the box "that's insane, wait so why did Emma hear it first if you're hosting the sleepover"
"She heard it from her mom" i looked at my phone that lit up with a message
"They're here" we put our jackets on quickly before leaving the house, I looked back before closing the door once making sure that all the lights were turned off before we headed to the car "heyy"
"Good morning you two" Blake, Colton's mother, smiled at us as we got buckled in in the backseat "it's cold today right ?"
"It's freezing" I agreed pulling my sleeves over my hands
"Mel can you cover my shift today ?" I looked from Blake to Cole who turned his head to face me
"Dude"
"The coach just put a new training session in and I have to be there"
"I have to get a presentation done by tomorrow and Cass would be on her own"
"I can stay home alone" my sister shot back frowning at me
"Please Mel" I groaned knowing that I would accept it anyways
"Is it the closing shift ?"
"Yeah... but it's with Alex"
"Well at least one good thing, I haven't worked with her in ages"
We dropped cassie off at the middle school first before Blake let us out in front of our school, Cole had been my best friend since we were 3 years old, I had spent most of my childhood at their house trying to escape from my own and they had always welcomed me and my sister with open arms
A few months ago we both applied for a job at a bakery - cafe and both of us got accepted surprisingly
Of course we started the job for very different reasons, I needed the money for basic necessities and his mom wanted him to be more responsible, he didn't actually need the money, he came from old money
"Do you think mr. Wood will care too much if I don't have the homework"
"I don't even think he will notice" I answered Destiny as I unlocked my locker
"Even if he does just tell him you didn't understand, I always do that" Colton laughed leaning against the locker next to Destinys
"True, are we still on for the sleepover tomorrow ?"
"Yeah, I think we lost a kid thought Cass told me that one of the girl got caught sneaking out and got grounded" I grabbed my history book and closed my locker hearing Destiny laugh as she closed hers too
"Icon"
"Oh and I can't hang out today"
"Why ?"
"I have to cover someone's shift" I looked over at Colton who shrugged with a grin on his face
"You love me"
"I really don't right now" I muttered as we started walking towards class, we all had the same class which happened rarely but I was really happy for it
While Cole and I have been friends since before kindergarten, Destiny only befriended us in 4th grade, when she moved down here from Boston
"Did you see Claribels livestream the other day ?"
"The one with Aryan where she sang ?"
"Yes, so you heard the song ? It was so good I like need it on my Spotify"
„Who's that ?" We both looked over at Cole who tried to follow our conversation unsuccessfully
"Claribel ? Belle ? Scobell ?" We could see that the name still didn't ring any bells for him
"Dude what are you ?" Destiny spoke rolling her eyes as we sat down at our desks "do you even know what Percy Jackson is ?" He still didn't answer deciding that he didn't care enough to ask for more
"Mel ?" I heard someone dragging the l out and turned my head to find them "can you please do me a huge favour"
"Sure"
"I didn't have time to do the homework, can I maybe copy from you, I promise this is the last time I just really can't afford not having the homework right now"
"Yeah sure, just hurry up" I took the paper out and passed it over to him
"Thank you, you're great" I followed her with my eyes until they landed on Destiny who had an expression on her face that said something along the lines of are you serious ?
"What" I muttered shrugging
"You do realise this will not be the last time"
"I did them anyways why not help her out for once"
"Once ? This is like the third time in just this month Mel, you gotta start saying no she's just using you" I enjoyed being able to help people, it let me believe that I had a little control over something and wasn't all that useless
"It's fine, no big deal" I pushed a piece of hair behind my ear shrugging
"Same old Melly" Colton sighed from the desk behind me
"Ew I told you I hate that name stop calling me that"

But I feel like I just need some time to get used to the new characters cause I spent so much time building the personalities that it now feels weird to have new ones
