"Melody" I looked up from my phone and just stared at my door "Chloe" I closed my eyes and took a deep breath

"What ? What's going on ?"

"I have to hang up Walk, text you in a bit"

"Are you okay ?"

"Yeah, fine" he smiled a little but I could see the worry in his eyes through the screen, I shot him a sincere smile before clicking the button to hang up

"Cassandra"

"You're going to wake her up" I hushed rushing down the hallway to close my sisters door, seeing her asleep snuggled up to the bear Walker had gotten her after she mentioned that she loved stuffed animals on my birthday last week

I smiled a little, I'm not sure how I deserved someone like him. He was making sure that not only I would be happy but he also stepped up for my sister which made my heart warm up every time

I was certain that Cassie deserved better, she was a sweet innocent girl and of course I tried everything I possibly could to fill the void that our parents left but no matter how much I tried I obviously couldn't replace them

"Chloe" I closed the door shaking my thoughts away as I hurried downstairs

"What"

"What is this mess ? Are you no good for anything ?" I looked around, I had to admit that it was a little messy but I told myself I would do it tomorrow since I'd just gotten home and was exhausted

"Sorry, I'll clean it right up" she mumbled something in response but I stood still not moving as she walked past me, bumping into me and stumbling a little on her way

"Useless child..." was all that I picked up

I waited until I heard a door close upstairs before leaning my hands on the counter and sighing, every bone in my body hurt and I had the worst headache and I was just tired, so freaking tired

I felt tears welling up in my eyes not entirely sure why, this was stupid I was not gonna cry for no reason

But the more I tried pushing it away the worse I felt and the worse my eyes burnt up, I closed my eyes feeling a few tears escaping my eyes as I did so

I took a shaky breath and shook my head, raising my hands to wipe the tears from my face

"Pull yourself together Mel what's wrong with you ?" I muttered quietly to myself looking at my reflection through the window

I looked around the room and just grew more frustrated by doing that, I also knew that I still had a ton of homework that was due tomorrow and a biology test that I still had to study for

I slid down to the floor feeling my heart beat faster and took short shaky breaths, covering my face with my hands

I'm okay
I'm okay
I'm okay
I'm okay
I'm okay
I'm...
I'm not okay

It was getting too much, I was picking up extra shifts at the cafe whenever I could to not make Cassie feel bad or less than her friends but more shifts meant less time

Less time meant the house was starting to look like a mess regularly, my school work got more stressful and worse since I was tired doing them most of the time and I had slept way too little in this past week, which I was very aware of but there was nothing I could do against it

"God Mel, you scared me" I removed my hands making an attempt to wipe my eyes while doing so and looked up at my sister

"What are you doing here ? Weren't you sleeping ?"

"Can't sleep, I've been lying in my bed with my headphones on for half an hour and it's getting boring so I decided to grab a glass of water, what are you doing here ? And why are you sitting in the floor ?"

"Just chilling. The floor is my comfort place" I told her making her snort a laugh as she sat down besides me

"I love floor time" she agreed nodding, she then turned her head to look at me "are you okay ?"

"Yeah of course, why ?"

"You just seem a little different lately, are you sure there's nothing bothering you ?"

"Yeah, nothing that you need to worry about at least" I gave her a smile but she didn't really look like she was buying it

"Talk to me Mel. You're so focused on trying to protect from what happened to you that you forget to protect yourself. I'm not a child anymore I don't want you to treat me like you're my mother but my sister" she took my hand and intertwined our fingers "We're in this together Mel but you need to let me in for that to be possible" I just quietly listened to her talking and almost felt like losing my mind at how grown up she sounded

"Moms home" I whispered quietly watching her nod "and I'm exhausted" she nodded again showing me that she was intently listening to anything I was giving her, I smiled and placed my head on her shoulder looking straight ahead, her head rested on mine too and I honestly felt so safe there "the kitchen is a mess and I still need to do so much before I can go to sleep"

"Go to sleep Mel, take tomorrow off of school and work and just rot in your bed" I laughed a little at the dream

"I wish I could"

"Do it"

"I can't skip school"

"It's not skipping, you're taking a very well deserved mental health day" I was quiet, that sounded quite tempting "your phones buzzing"

"It's probably Walker"

"Well answer your poor boyfriend"

"I'll talk to him later"

"I still can't believe you're casually dating a celebrity. And that he doesn't seem like a celebrity at all in person"

"Honestly, when I'm with Walker I tend to forget that he's a famous actor. He's just Walker to me, he's the same guy I would've fallen for if he was in the bleachers"

"Isn't it ever scary that there are so many people crushing on him ?" I hummed in response with a shrug

"It's a little intimidating. But I don't really think about that a lot, I am scared of the reactions when we go public though, that's gonna be nasty"
