If you asked the people around her they would all describe Mel in the same way : happy, funny, helpful, selfless, smart and so much more, so would Walker Scobell.

"Want to go shopping today ? It's my cousins 16th soon and she's doing this whole thing" I looked up from my paper and thought for a second
"Who's ?"
"Eliza" I thought again frowning a little going through Destiny's cousins
"Oh the one with the pretty eyes ?"
"Yeah, you're coming right ?"
"Am I invited ?"
"Sure, she won't be bothered by one more person it's gonna be huge" I scrunched my face a little, that sounded amazing and horrifying at the very same time
"When is it ?"
"May 26th" I took my phone out and looked at my work schedule checking to make sure that I was free, I saw a message from Walker for a second before pushing it away
"Yeah I'm free"
"Perfect, I was dreading it on my own, liz is really fun and all but I don't know many of her friends" I was pretty sure that Des wouldn't have any problems making friends there, she was the outgoing type that everyone immediately befriended but I also knew that I wasn't gonna say no to that invite
"Destiny, Mel, could you get back to your work ?" I gave a smile and a quick nod turning back to the exercise I was doing
"So shopping today ?" She whispered glancing over at me with a convincing smile
"Sure"

"That is such a cute dress you have to try it on"
"Why don't you try it on ?"
"It's not my colour" I sighed taking the 6th dress she insisted on me trying on into my hand when I felt my phone vibrating
I took it out to see who the message was from and started smiling a little when I saw walkers name pop up, we had been texting and talking for over a month by now and I rarely felt as comfortable with anyone
With Walker I could just be me without the piercing backstory about the alcoholic mother and abusive father
I still didn't share any of that to Walker because I mean talking to me was fun and all that but I wasn't really interested in letting anyone that close to me, I was fun enough until people got too close and decided that they did not want to deal with all the issues
"What are you smiling at over there" Destiny grabbed my phone out of my hand before I could protest and read the message I got, I watched her reading it, I watched her scanning my phone and I saw the exact second she saw the username of the person who just texted me. Her eyes flew up to meet mine "Mel" I hadn't told Destiny about this yet
"Des"
"Have something to tell me ?" I was a little worried that she was gonna be mad that I hadn't told her but seeing that grin on her face I knew she wasn't mad, she had a teasing grin on her face
"Uh, can you give me my phone" I reached to get it but since she was taller than me (it was only a few inches but she would never make me forget it) she held it up to where I couldn't reach it
"Melly" I held her eye contact for a while rolling my eyes eventually
"We're just texting and talking a bit Des it's nothing big"
"Excuse me ?! What do you mean you're talking to Walker Scobell ?? Like Walker Scobell as in Percy Jackson ? As in the Claribel Scobells brother ? Or did I get the wrong guy here ?"
"Yes that Walker"
"Oh. My. God." I grabbed my phone from her hand while she just kept grinning at me "I thought when he asked me for your insta it was just to... I don't know I didn't really expect this"
"Wait he asked you ?"
"Well yeah, but I didn't want to tell you and crush you if he didn't actually follow you"
"I assumed you gave him my insta"
"Why would I do that ? Why would I just walk up to him and give him your instagram that's like really awkward mel" I hadn't really thought about it that much and I for sure didn't think about it enough to think about how that would've really been awkward "Wait so- when you say you're talking do you mean like talking or talking"
"Talking. There's nothing going on we're just friends"
"Oh you're just casually friends with the guy who you've had a crush on for years of course"
"It was celebrity crush Des, that's barely a crush"
"Mel you watched the Adam project, secret headquarters and Percy Jackson like a bazillion times and I know that collection you have on TikTok too" I felt my cheeks grow hot and rolled my eyes turning away from her
"But it isn't like that Des. He is so much more than that actor. Like when we talk I forget that like half of the earth's population probably knows who he is because he's just so..." I tried finding the right word to put in but failed and just looked at her
"You like him"
"What ?! No- no I don't. We're friends"
"Okay"
"Destiny" I groaned knowing that she wasnt gonna let it go that easily while she went back to looking though more dresses to try on
I checked my phone quickly to see what he texted me before she stole my phone

"Destinyyy" I rolled my eyes putting my phone away and following my best friend through the store
Authors note: Well in case you wanted to know or whatever this is the very same carpet event thingy that Walker finds out about Aryan and Belle dating 🤭 I also did finish the book I was talking about yesterday btw. it was a great book but now I'm fucked cause school starts tomorrow and my sleep schedule is a mess 🤭
