Adrien's pov:
"Cmon Vince, it's a good idea." I back up Leo's point. "It's useless, Charles already has plans installed to capture the rest of the Brit's warehouses." Vincent recklessly slams fist on his desk. Chase, Leo and I are trying to pitch our idea to Vincent. After Xavier told us that it was only Nat managing her mafia, we've tried our best to lend a helping hand.
Well, all apart from Vincent.
"So what? We're just going to leave her to the dogs?" Chase crosses his arms. My older brother stands from his desk. "We have a whole lot of shit to clean up thanks to the British, adding the Americans on our to-do list would only bring us down." A muscle ticks in Vincent's jaw.
A knock silences the room and dissolves the tension floating around.
Vincent's secretary pops in with a small parcel in her hand. "Not now Gina." He shoos her away. "It's a parcel." She hands it to him. "I have eyes." Vincent leaves it to the side. Gina stands still and her boss arches a brow. My eyes dart to the package address. She fidgets with her fingers and starts to speak. "The only thing is that-"
"It's for Sunshine." I state and point towards her name in big bold letters.
"Yeah." Gina lets out a sigh and hastily exits the room leaving us alone. "Well what are you waiting for? Put it in your briefcase." I place Vincent's bag on his desk. His eyes darken and he squints to read the fine print. "Uh V?" Chase's voice is laced with concern. "Take a look at this." He hands Leo the package.
Leo's nod confirms Vincent's previous suspicions.
"Well are you going to spill the beans or what?" Chase impatiently asked. "It's from the drug cartel." My older brother states and tosses the parcel into Chase's bulky arms. "Oh shit." He tests the heaviness and before any of us can stop him, he opens it. "Let's see why the fuck she was ordering from the dr-"
Chase halts and slowly takes out a pill box.
My heartbeat intensifies and time stops altogether. Yellow translucent plastic, white cap, blue round pills, they're fentanyl capsules. Just one could kill a person within milliseconds. Just one. Time moves at a slower pace as room is silent. "Why the fuck would she buy those? It's not as if she's going out anywhere." Chase places the cup onto Vincent's desk.
My older brother picks it up to examine and the colour drains from his face.
The container drops from his grasp. His fists clench and his jaw tightens. "Vince, what's wrong?" I cautiously step towards my brother who looks shocked to his core. His breathes become more shallow and his shaky hands reach for his tie. As he loosens it, concern overtakes my senses.
I've never seen Vincent Morales look this distraught before, ever.
"V, speak to us." Leo eyes him worriedly. Chase catches on and speaks up. "She didn't buy them for anyone else, she bought them for herself." His words cause my brain to go numb. The information overrides my mind and a thousand thoughts howl through my head. "She wouldn't do that." Vincent tries to make sense of it all with delusion on his side.
"Then who else are those pill for Vince?" I shake my head negatively in denial.
A strange sensation pricks behind my eyes. "She knows her worth, she knows we love her." My older brother's hands begin to shake uncontrollably. "Does she?" A pathetic look appears on my facade, a guilty one so to speak. This is all our fucking fault and he knows it. "SHE DOES! SHE HAS TO!" Vincent raises his voice.
