Gulf tried to balance himself for the third time that morning. He felt weak after falling asleep on the floor yesterday, having cried himself to exhaustion. He avoided checking his temperature, fearing it might reveal his weakness.
"You can do this, Gulf. You are not weak anymore," he reassured himself before heading downstairs to catch a taxi to the university.
After finishing one class, Gulf felt his breath quicken. He walked slowly to his office, trying not to faint. Once there, he took his medicine and continued grading his students' assignments.
On his way to his next class, Gulf heard familiar voices. He struggled to compose himself and hide any signs of weakness.
"We will definitely fix the problem, Mr. Nattawut," the dean said, bowing to Kao before leaving. Kao saw Gulf out of the corner of his eye but tried to ignore him.
Gulf bowed to Kao and started to walk away, but someone suddenly stopped him.
"You look pale. You should rest," Kao said, standing in front of Gulf with concern. Despite his effort to ignore it, Gulf's flushed face made it hard for Kao to stay composed.
"I'm fine, Sir," Gulf insisted, trying to walk again, but Kao held his hand. Kao was shocked by how warm Gulf's body was.
"Gulf, you're burning up. I'm taking you to the hospital," Kao said, trying to pull Gulf along, but Gulf resisted.
"Sir, I can manage on my own. Please let me go," Gulf said, pulling his hand free, but Kao held firm.
"No. If I let you go, you'll just head to your class. I'm taking you to the hospital," Kao insisted, trying again to pull Gulf, but Gulf remained stubborn.Frustrated by Gulf's resistance, Kao raised his voice trying to call Gulf.
"Enough, Sir! I'm a grown man. I don't need anyone taking care of me. I'm not the same person I was two years ago. I'm stronger now and definitely don't need any man's care!" Gulf shouted, feeling a pounding headache.
Kao was taken aback by the outburst but more concerned about Gulf's condition. He noticed Gulf's labored breathing and flushed face, which made him look even more vulnerable. This was not a good time but Kao admitted that Gulf looks cuter in this state.
"This isn't about your independence. I'm worried about you, Gulf," Kao said, his tone softening as he tried to coax Gulf.
"I don't need your concern. I—" Gulf began, but he felt dizzy and lost his balance. Kao quickly caught him.
"Gulf? Hang on, dear," Kao said, lifting Gulf into his arms and carrying him to his car.
On the way to the hospital, Kao placed Gulf's head on his lap. Gulf was losing consciousness but he fight the feeling, trying to stay awake.
"You can rest, dear. Nothing will happen to you, I promise," Kao said, gently caressing Gulf's head.
Gulf was suprised but touched at the same time by Kao's touch. It has been so long someone treat him this gentle. Gulf looked up and saw Kao's worried face, which made him remember Kao's care from two years ago. Tears filled Gulf's eyes as he wondered why Kao was treating him so gently now.
"Why are you crying, dear?" Kao asked, wiping Gulf's tears, surprised by how warm they were.
This made Kao upset with himself for sulking like a child and not be able to prevent Gulf from going to work. His own eyes welled up.
"I'm sorry for being late. It's my fault, Gulf. I shouldn't have sulked over what you said before. Instead, I should stay and look after you. I'm sorry for being petty," Kao said, caressing Gulf's hair and asking his assistant to drive faster.
Gulf saw Kao's genuine concern and felt his emotions surge again. He instinctively took Kao's hand and held it, slowly falling asleep, feeling comforted on Kao's lap.
"Why are you being nice to me?" Gulf's last words before he fell asleep. Kao, seeing how cute Gulf looked while trying to stay awake, kissed his hand.
"I'll tell you when the time is right."
---
Gulf slowly opened his eyes, feeling better than he had yesterday's morning. He noticed someone holding his hand. Gulf was suprised to see Kao's sleeping on the chair, holding his hand firmly.
Gulf did not know why but he felt relief to see that the first thing he saw after waking up is Kao.
"Khun..." Gulf whispered.
Despite his illness, Gulf always remembered what happened to him since his break up. Gulf recalled how Kao had never faked his concern, which made him tear up again.
"Gulf? What's wrong?" Kao, who had just woken up, was relieved to see Gulf awake but became worried when he saw Gulf crying.
"Are you in pain? Wait here; I'll call the doctor," Kao said, sitting up to call for help, but Gulf stopped him.
"What's wrong, dear?" Kao asked, his concern so great that he forgot to use Gulf's name.
Gulf recognized the nickname and recalled hearing it before. He remembered how he heard that nickname before he fall two years ago.
"Gulf? What is it? Please tell me. If you're in pain, I'll call the doctor. Just let me know what you need to stop crying," Kao said, wiping Gulf's tears while struggling to hold back his own.
Kao did not want to admit it but he knows that Gulf is precious to him. He became weak whenever Gulf was involved.
Gulf wondered why Kao cared so much about him. Even if it was out of sympathy or regret, it felt like too much. What if...
"Just stay beside me, Khun..."
