Kao sat on the bench outside a room, looking dejected. The nurses advised him to take a rest somewhere else, but he insisted on waiting outside, not leaving until the person inside the room cooled down.
The door opened, and Kao looked up, showing a dejected smile. Bright sighed upon seeing Kao's condition and sat beside him.
"How is he?" Kao's voice was low, afraid Gulf would hear him.
"He fell asleep after crying. Just give him some time, P'Kao. I'm sure he will calm down," Bright patted Kao's shoulder, offering reassurance.
"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have let Ja get close to Gulf the moment he arrived here, but I was too careless," Kao cupped his face in distress.
"It's not your fault, P'Kao. Only Ja knows the truth about whether it was an accident or..." Bright couldn't finish his sentence. He didn't want to upset Kao further, so he remained silent.
"Thank you for being here, Bright. If you weren't here, I wouldn't know what to do," Kao smiled briefly at Bright.
Kao had called Bright after getting kicked out. Bright managed to calm Gulf a bit and assured him that he would take care of Gulf.
"Gulf is my best friend. Of course, I will help him. However, I can't stay long; I have a meeting in an hour, so I have to go. He is asleep, so I think it's safe for you to go in," Bright patted Kao's shoulder before heading to his car.
On his way to the car, Bright bumped into someone. He looked up and saw it was Kao's assistant.
"Mr. Bright, are you going home now?" Kao's assistant bowed.
"Yes, I have a meeting," Bright said, smiling.
"Are you coming again?" Kao's assistant asked, curious about the nature of Bright's relationship with Gulf and whether he was a rival to Kao.
Bright chuckled upon hearing the question. He knew what the younger man was thinking.
"I am, but as his best friend. If you're that curious, then I admit that I love Gulf, but he can't be my number one because I love my work. Your boss is different, right?" Bright smiled, making the younger man understand his words.
"I'm sorry if the question offended you," Kao's assistant bowed, but Bright waved him off. He patted his shoulder before taking a step to leave, but a shadow caused Bright to stop.
"What's wrong, Mr. Bright?" the assistant asked.
"Come with me. I need another set of eyes to see if what I'm seeing is real or not," Bright pulled Kao's assistant's wrist and guided him somewhere.
------
Kao calmed himself before entering the room. He saw Gulf sleeping peacefully, which made Kao smile. He missed seeing this face so much.
Kao sat beside the bed and gently held Gulf's hand. He remembered the first time he held this hand and wished he could turn back time.
"I miss you so much," Kao placed Gulf's hand on his cheek.
He remembered how upset Gulf was when he found out he was blind, and it tore Kao's heart. He wished he could take away Gulf's pain.
"Urghh, Bright? Is that you?" Gulf tried to feel Kao's face, but Kao deliberately placed his hand back on the bed.
"Bright... I'm thirsty," Gulf called out slowly, reaching for the nightstand, but Kao stopped his hand.
Kao poured water into a cup and helped Gulf sit up. He assisted Gulf in drinking the water without saying a word.
"Thank you, Bright..." Gulf said before leaning his head against the wall. Kao stayed quiet, just watching Gulf's face.
"I still think this is a dream... I was hoping that when I woke up, I would be able to see again. I want to see again..." Gulf sobbed, tears falling down his cheeks.
Kao was surprised by the tears and struggled to hold back his own. He took out his handkerchief and wiped Gulf's tears. Gulf held the hand that was touching him and clutched it tightly.
"Is it wrong for me to blame P'Kao for all this?" Gulf asked, but Kao remained silent, afraid Gulf would discover the truth if he spoke.
Gulf waited a few minutes for a response but then burst into tears, recalling how harshly he had spoken to Kao. Unable to remain still, Kao pulled Gulf into a hug, which Gulf returned.
"Don't leave me alone, please..." Gulf clung to Kao's shirt, not wanting him to go. Kao could only nod, crying because he knew those words were meant for Bright, not him.
------
"Why are we here, First?" Ja whispered, looking around nervously.
"P'Ja, you've been crying for days! The only way to fix this is to see your dad! He's here with P'Gulf," First said, holding Ja's wrist tightly.
First had seen Ja reaching for a knife to hurt himself but was able to stop him in time. Knowing Ja was deeply hurt, he wanted to set things right.
"No, I can't!" Ja realized First had brought him to Gulf's room, so he pulled away and tried to run, but someone stopped him.
"No wonder you looked familiar from afar. You finally showed your face, Ja!" Bright emerged from a corner, crossing his arms. Kao's assistant was with him.
"Mr. Ja, we've been looking for you for days," Kao's assistant approached, but it frightened Ja, causing him to run away.
"Wait!" Kao's assistant started to chase Ja, but Bright stopped him.
"Wait, we shouldn't chase him. He'll be more scared and run away again," Bright said, holding Kao's assistant's hand.
"Mr. Bright, please let me go. This may not concern you, but Mr. Gulf is in this condition because of me, so I have to take responsibility. I don't care what happens as long as I can catch him," Kao's assistant pulled his hand free and ran after Ja.
Bright sighed, knowing the assistant was stubborn. He signaled his bodyguard to protect the assistant and then turned to First.
"You know where he'll go, right, First?"
