Kao was nervous seeing the love of his life sitting on the bed. Gulf's surgery was successful, and it had been a few weeks, so the moment of truth was here.
"P'Kao..." Gulf slowly called out.
Kao immediately moved closer and held Gulf's hand. Gulf returned the hold tightly, expressing his anxiety, but Kao comforted him by kissing Gulf's knuckles.
"We'll open the bandage now, Gulf," the doctor said, slowly uncovering Gulf's eyes after receiving a small nod from him.
Gulf slowly opened his eyes when he sensed there were no more bandages covering them. Kao nervously showed his face in Gulf's range of vision.
"Love? Can you see me?" Kao cupped Gulf's cheek.
Gulf slowly held Kao's hand, tears flowing down his cheeks as he was once again able to see the love of his life.
"I can see you again, P," Gulf smiled and nodded.
Kao let out a huge breath, tears gathering in his eyes as well. He kissed Gulf's forehead, eyes, cheek, and finally his lips. Gulf couldn't hide his smile when he received so much love from Kao. They were both in their own world, not realizing the doctor had already left the room.
"I love you so much, Gulf. Thank you for never giving up and staying strong throughout the surgery. I couldn't imagine my life without you. I love you so much that I can't breathe without you," Kao confessed.
Finally, Kao could speak the words he had always wanted to say. He wanted to say them earlier, but Gulf's condition came first, so he postponed every plan.
"P... I love you too. I never thought I would fall for someone this much, but you proved me wrong, P. When I lost my vision, all I could think about was you—your eyes, your smile, and how you always looked charming. I was afraid you would leave me, but you stayed, and I could never thank you enough for being by my side," Gulf hugged Kao tightly, afraid he would leave him.
"I will never leave you, you hear me? I will do anything to keep you by my side," Kao returned the hug and kissed Gulf's head.
They held each other until Gulf felt his eyes grow heavy, and Kao let him rest. He wanted to tell Gulf about the donor of his eyes but didn’t want Gulf to feel guilty about it. Kao held Gulf's hand and fell asleep in the chair, having been awake since the previous day.

Ja sat down on a bench and looked ahead. He had lost his vision, but the wind and sounds from his surroundings helped him imagine the view. After the surgery, Ja moved back to his hometown up in the mountains. He had always wanted to bring his life partner here, but that now seemed impossible.
"Who is that?" Ja felt someone sit beside him and panicked a bit. In recent days, there had been rumors of thieves, and he was alone. Occasionally, a caretaker would come to check on him, but most of the time, he was by himself.
"It's me, Ja..." Ja was surprised to hear a voice he never thought he would hear again.
"P... P'Gulf..." Ja called out slowly, turning his head toward the voice.
"Why did you do that?" Gulf said, holding back tears.
"Do what, P?" Ja asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
"You know that I can tell if you’re lying, Ja. Why did you give me your eyes? You're younger than me and have a brighter future," Gulf said, wiping his tears. He looked at Kao, who remained quiet from afar but offered comfort with a smile.
"Because you deserve it more than I do, P. You told me my future is brighter? But, P... You finally met the love of your life. The one who can bring you happiness better than I ever could. I can't let you be sad anymore. After all, it's all my fault," Ja said, staring ahead to hide his tears.
"So everything is just because of your guilt? Then, I don’t want your eyes, Ja. I don’t need your sympathy," Gulf said, trying to get up, but Ja held him back.
"No, P! That's not my intention. I... I..." Ja stuttered, unsure of what to say.
"You what?!" Gulf raised his voice slightly, frustrated with Ja's evasiveness.
"I love you! And I wanted you to be happy, P! I also wanted my dad to be happy. Since you two got together, he has been so happy—happier than when he first met me. When I visited you that day, all I could think about was my dad. Just think of this as my gift to you and him, P... After all, you will be my stepdad," Ja tried to laugh to ease the tension, but he didn’t realize Gulf was crying at his words.
Suddenly, Ja felt someone hug him, and the scent was familiar.
"Dad?" Ja couldn’t hold back his tears any longer. It had been so long since Kao had hugged him; he felt like a child again.
"No matter what, you are still my child, Ja... I can't hate you forever. When I was lonely, at my worst... you showed up, giving me happiness as a family member," Kao said, kissing Ja on the forehead.
"Thank you so much, Dad..." Ja smiled, the same way he used to when he was a child.
Gulf and Kao stayed there for a night before leaving. When they departed, they saw First watching Ja from afar, still inside the house.
"The caretaker told me that First has been here since the first day but purposely didn't show himself," Kao said, holding Gulf's hand.
"I think Ja knows First is here. He’s just waiting for the right moment. He’ll be fine," Gulf smiled, looking at First and Ja.
"Look at you, already embracing your role as Ja's dad," Kao joked, making Gulf lightly hit his arm.
"Well, there’s still a ring needed on my finger, though," Gulf said, holding out his right hand.
"Then let’s find you a ring right now. I can't wait to be your husband," Kao said, driving to the ring shop.
Gulf smiled and nodded. Even though it was an unintentional proposal, he never needed words of affirmation when Kao constantly showed him how much he loved Gulf. That’s when he knew he would live the life he always wanted—one full of love.
END
A/N: Hi, I know it has been a long time since I last updated, but I couldn't let the story hang. I realize the ending feels a bit rushed, but I'd rather it conclude than remain unfinished. Perhaps there will be an epilogue to wrap things up completely, but that will take some time. Finally, I want to thank everyone who read and showed interest in the story. Until next time!
