Mercury black stared out the window of the apartment he found himself in. It had not been a nice week.
The attack on Vale had been a complete disaster. Cinder was dead, taurus and most of his men had abandoned them, drifting out to sea, and torchwick had just outright disappeared the moment he saw those gunships.
Now, he was stuck on the top floor of this old, run-down apartment complex, with his only company being a few members of the white fang who failed to evacuate in time, and emerald... Who wouldn't stop talking about how she wanted payback for those clones killing cinder. Honestly, mercury was considering shooting her there and now.
Unfortunately for the pair and their guards, it wouldn't be long before atlas and the Republic found them. And they were going to come at them too fast for them to react.

Outside the seemingly abandoned apartment complex, a combined squad of atlesian soldiers and Republic troopers had assembled outside. After tracking a white fang member to this location, command had given the order to raid the building.
Looking through the window to ensure that they were at the right target, a clone trooper noticed a squad of white fang grunts guarding a corner

"you're clear to engage" The trooper stated, pointing to an atlas soldier carrying an enforcer ram.
The soldier didn't need much more info, as he immediately slammed the enforcer into the door, breaking it down with a single strike

The soldiers immediately rushed into the building, gunning down any white fang agents they laid their sights on. A few grunts, remembering what happened during the attack on Vale, immediately surrendered, and were promptly taken into custody.
An unlucky group of troopers were killed when a suicidal white gang grunt ran into the room with a live grenade, taking the troopers in the room with him. However, that didn't stop them from progressing up each floor.
Mercury, hearing what was going on downstairs, began to panic as he ordered the white fang to barricade the staircase. He had planned to just escape and be done with it... Only for emerald to refuse, stating that she wanted revenge against the clones for killing cinder, and would kill him if he tried anything.
